Corny lid repair

Post by Frothy » Tue Jan 16, 2007 11:19 pm

One of my corny lids recently stopped holding pressure.

On inspection I've found that this lid has a different valve assembly to
the regular corny keg as it has a backnut. The backnut is plastic, it's split
and apparently it's an odd size. There is now a 17mm hole in the lid
and the only remedy I can think of is to get a nut welded on that will accept
a regular corny release valve.... I just don't know what thread it is?

Well It's a bodge but if you have a regulator then I'd say short term blank it off and just keep the pressure well within limits.

Ok good to know Daab - thanks. In this case I'll probably get a local welder to blank it off & just use the gas post as a relief. I'd love to buy a new lid Andy but most companies seem to be useless?

Looks like you could buy a new valve but perhaps a new lid would make more sense.

good find JM.
Virtually all my kegs are slightly different, that firestone logo is on a few of the lids, each lid has a slightly different valve. Some made in Germany some Italy and at least one is a proper Cornelius made in USA.

anybody know anywhere reliable I could get a replacement lid? I've still got a corny from the scrap yard that came without one.
