OK, grain purchased from Hogs Back Brewery.
4kg Pale Malt
500g Chocolate Malt
and some live yeast
all for less than £4
Tomorrow is brewday, recipe to be finalised but all the pale will be used and a dash of chocolate for some colour. Got some crystal left over so that will figure also....
Plus, hops are from a mates homegrown bine so should be an interesting brew

Hi JY - I know the variety (First Gold) and am using the higher alpha %age for this variety (8%) in my calcs.

When i brew with my own hop, i use the lower alpha, last week i read somewhere that it's better to use the higher alpha when it's home hop
this could be right cos i found my beer more hoppy than i was expected

I pass within half a mile of the Tongham Brewery every working day. I've been meaning to pop in and get some of their yeast for ages. Didn't know they'd also sell malt. Hmm maybe Monday.

Phil, give their shop a call ahead of a visit to put your request in. Sometimes the staff serving can't measure out the grain for you - it depends who's on.

Good stuff Andy. Plenty of time for a good, long boil.

Over indulged in some previous brew sampling last night and funnily enough brewing up first thing this morning wasn't too appealing!
All done now, just pitched the yeast.
