Youngs Budget Barrel Stupid Question
Re: Youngs Budget Barrel Stupid Question
It's supposed to release excessive pressure. An S30 is useful for adding CO2 when needed to serve it. Although if properly primed you should get at least half way through the barrel before it's necessary. Depends on how many pints a night you draw from it

Re: Youngs Budget Barrel Stupid Question
Hi Aidan
Yep the "white rubber thing" is the pressure release valve & will let out any excess CO2 produced from secondary fermentation. You will only require an injection system for when the level of beer in your barrel drops & CO2 pressure drops. Of course you can just loosen the cap slightly as the level drops to enable the beer to flow however to ensure it is kept in the best condition without infection topping up with an injection of CO2 is a must!

Re: Youngs Budget Barrel Stupid Question
Providing you get a good seal and don't quaffe your brew too quickly you may not need to have a separate CO2 injection system. Obviously pressure will drop a bit when you get to the last 8-12 pints although, from my recent experience, I find that I'm not having to inject any gas and you can crack your lid for the last few pints and let gravity do it's stuff. Try to avoid air glugging back through the tap because this will mean that oxygen gets in and will shorten the life of your beer.Aidan wrote:.........just bought a youngs budget barrel. I was wondering if I will also need one of the CO2 injection caps to release pressure or will the barrel do it on it's own?
