I have received a mail from a brewery in regards to one of their ales.
I will divulge the beer if someone can help me translate the recipe into something that I can understand!!
Here is what I was told.
Colour 41
IBU 41
ABV 5.4%
Ingredients as a percentage by weight.
Pale malt 77% by weight
Crystal malt 12 % by weight
Malt Syrup 10% by weight
Hops ( which are target and goldings) 1% by weight
So here are the 2 questions.
! can anyone have a go at making this into a recipe based on the figures abouve ( and 75% efficiency) as I dn’t really understand this so much
2 I am guessing that malt syrup is liquid malt extract? In the absence of this how could I adapt the recipe. Sugar? Brown Sugar+ black treacle?
I’ll let you know the beer after ( I also have another recipe by the same!)
Thanks
can anyone translate this
Re: can anyone translate this

Re: can anyone translate this
I use my own calculator that I created using MS Excel and it has always worked for me so here goes:
Effiency 75%
Pale Malt: 77% 3.850kg
Crystal Malt 12% 600g
Malt Syrup 10% 500g
Hops 1% 50g
Although if I enter the details into my hop calculator it gives me 70g based on my Goldings which are 5.9% AA. I'm not sure of the AA of target as I don't use them...yet!
The above is for 23l brewlength and is calculated to account for the losses in my system so it will vary a little for your own system.
Hope this is of help?

If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!
Re: can anyone translate this
hi here goes...
pale malt 4073 grams 77%
crystal malt 632 grams 12%
dried malt extract 583g 11% (i used this because you asked for alternatives to the syrup)
gives abv of 5.4%
goldings with an alpha acid content of 5.7 (this can be adjusted if you let me know what the aa content of your hops is)
69 grams if boiling for 90 mins. gives 41 ibu
or
74 grams if boiling for 60 mins gives 41 ibu.
hope you find this info useful

hi
any home brew shop will sell liquid extract in 1.5 kg tins. personally i don't think the dme will result in any off flavour with the rest of the grain in the recipe.
you could do away with extract alltogether and just up the pale malt ...
