How improtant is water treatment?

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Thanks again DaaB. When you say 'boil', do you mean the 15 minute water treatment boil or the wort boil?
Mr Line also recommends 1/2 tsp of epsom salts for ale liquor. Any views on that?

Hello all i have been treating my water for a while for different styles for a while now with good results. But have been wondering if i should be adjusting Gypsum & Flaked Calcium Chloride for moisture content. Not sure what types i have i buy it from Hop & Grape per Kg each probably comes from brupaks.I had an article from Brewers Contact about calculating for moisture but can't find it anymore. Anyone have any information regarding calculating for moisture in Gypsum & Flaked Calcium Chloride . Cheers
