Bad Dog Two - 120L Brewery
Re: Bad Dog Two - 120L Brewery
Sounds like bedtime reading, instead I'll ask a gas engineering mate. A piece of bread and butter might provide the answer.

Don't forget that the exhaust gases will heat the system quite well and the insulation will keep it hot..
I think I have read that heating time would be around 40 mins for 100 L for the 20 burner model and these are rated at 100K BTU so you would want the 5K jets to my thinking. Not sure if you could put higher jets as would you get enough gas throughput?
Also can you use the same thermocouple assembly for LPG as pressures are different. I would hope so.

Genius and insanity are but a small step apart. I often feel that I have taken that step.

Here we go...the third beautiful sister has now joined the family:

All have their ball valves removed and the one on the left has had the gas assembly taken off....
Hopefully I'll get time this weekend to properly measure them up and get models built in SketchUp for the pots and the frame. Maybe a bit more dismantling and a go over with the pressure washer.

Thanks Guys....but don't hold your breath....this is going to be a long term project. I'm setting myself a goal of 1 year to get the first brew on!sam c wrote:great work adm!

You have got the start of a stunning brewery there mate. Very impressed! What sort of murals are you going to have airbrushed on the sides? Sorry, I'll get my coat...

Re: Bad Dog Two - 120L Brewery
OK....so for anyone out there who has bought some of these pots, and needs to rejet the burners to propane, here's the lowest price I've been able to find so far on the jets. This is from Flamaire Burner Services (http://www.cateringburners.co.uk). I asked them for prices on the 5K BTU jets, and also on complete new burners out of interest.
"L74 jets are £131.25 per 100, less 20% 101 to 500 and less 25% for 501+
R8 diameter burners c/w L74 jets are £72.45 each 1-5 pieces, 6-10 pieces less 20% 11-50 pieces less 30%
Prices exclude VAT at standard rate and packaging and transport costs.
I trust you find these prices acceptable and can give you a fixed price on a positive order."
So - if there's a few people looking for these, we can do a bulk buy and certainly get them at the 20% discount price, which works out at about £1.24 per jet, or £25 per burner, including VAT, but not including postage or packaging.
Anyway, if anybody wants some of these, I'm happy to do a bulk order and split the quantities and send on to you at cost. PM me your requirements or post here to indicate your interest and I'll total everything up after a week or so and place an order.

Re: Bad Dog Two - 120L Brewery
Hi,
Sounds good to me but I do need to check the burner threads as it seems most of the jets on mine are pushed in with PTFE and have no thread left on them. I am hopeful that the burner outlets still have thread to them as they are steel and the burners are brass so much softer.
I would be looking at re-jetting 2 burners so looked at 40 jets but will prob take 10 extras for spares.
The maintenance guy at Juggs mentioned they used to get them somewhere in China town in Soho at around £1.00 each but I can;t remember where or if these would be current prices.

He said it was Lee Ho Fooks......as mentioned in the song "Werewolves of London"!dr_watts wrote:Hi,

However, that's a chinese restaurant! But who knows.... They may or may not have the propane jets as well as the natural gas ones.
One of my burners has the jet threads wrapped with PTFE, the other two don't, however I haven't checked if it's burner or jet threads that are knackered. Most of the jets needed to be unscrewed (on the PTFE wrapped one - I haven't dismantled the other burners yet), but a coupIe just kind of "wriggled" out.... don't think it makes much difference though. I'd probably wrap new jets in PTFE anyway. Or some kind of heat resistant thread sealant just to be on the safe (and anal) side.....

Re: Bad Dog Two - 120L Brewery
I took the PTFE off and found the jet threads were non existent so hope the burner is OK. I think wrapping in a small bit of PTFE would be goos but not sure if the threads are gone on the burner how well they would stand up to the pressure of LPG and if they might just pop out or leak. With the bits of super kit we got I sort of don't want to go down the Heath Robinson route if you get my drift.
Got to wait for things to settle down family wise before I can start construction of the brewery but really need to get some beer made as not made any in over 9 months now due to walking baby (8 months) and ill parents.
Got my interim kit put together over Easter and was hoping to test drive it but spent the weekend running around sorting out mum so no beer and forced to drink tasteless tinned lager that friends brought round 'cause it was cheap.

Re: Bad Dog Two - 120L Brewery
I hear you there.....I'm going down the full strip down and refurbish route myself...I want every molecule of ready meal grease removed and all the internals made "as new" before I brew any beer in these. I am still considering replacing the entire burner heads too, and I will most probably replace the entire gas assembly with solenoid controlled valves and intermittent electronic pilot control (I'm currently researching smart gas valves and ignitor modules from heating boilers, but this route looks too expensive, so it will probably by $15 chinese solenoid valves and standing pilots unless I find a bargain on eBay)dr_watts wrote:I took the PTFE off and found the jet threads were non existent so hope the burner is OK. Bleh. Better get brewing then! I'm not planning on getting rid of my current brewery any time in the near future. Given the size and weight of the Juggs pots, this is going to be a long term project for me too. Some people build kit cars, some people build extensions on their houses......looks like my money pit project is going to be a brewery! Still - at least I should get beer out of it in the end.dr_watts wrote: Got to wait for things to settle down family wise before I can start construction of the brewery but really need to get some beer made as not made any in over 9 months now due to walking baby (8 months) and ill parents.

I'm still waiting for mine, but have sorted out transport. The company that I work for has a hub in London, so they will bring them back to Cork. So at this stage, I am not sure what I need. I hope to get them within the week though.
