ibrew - new home brewing system from Muntons...
Re: ibrew - new home brewing system from Muntons...
ha ha! of course... lol, thanks..
Re: ibrew - new home brewing system from Muntons...
I'd exercise caution splitting two can kits as I've had non-identical tins of malt extract in two can kits eg Brupaks Almondbury Old has a deep red coloured malt extract tin and an much paler amber malt extract tin. If in doubt you could always contact the manufacturer.Chris-x1 wrote:You can split a 2 can kit by just using one of the tins and saving the other tin (unopened) for later, the contents of the two tins are identical, you will need a second packet of yeast though.
I'd guess the Brupaks Beers of the World kits would be your safest bet for a quality brew using this system.

Hi,
I use the ibrew system and I have 6 ibrew bottles so I can do any kit! Other wise just split the the cans up. Yes they will fit in the fermentor as it's designed for 20 pints.

I have the ibrew system ie the tap-a-draft along with a barrel and 300+ bottles
In my opinion the tap-a-draft is by far the best system
- It is easier to sterilse than individual bottles
- You can transport it easier than barrels ie to a friends for a bbq/party
- It cannot lose pressure like a barrel
- It fits easily on the kitchen work surface or in the fridge
- It is easier to decant than bottles.
The ibrew bitter is actually one of my favourites and I have now done 11 different kits with my favourite being either Old conkerwood black ale or Ditch's stout.

I've been using ibrew for coming on a year now and I do like it, with some reservations.
You can use a 40 pint kit right in there without problems, except you need two more bottles.
My biggest gripe is sedimentation, you brew standing them up and then lay them down to serve. This requires up to 5 days in some cases for the beer to clear again. I now use a combination of ibrew and a keg. FV in the ibrew and then syphon into a keg and then rack into bottles after a few days which means less sediment in the bottles 4-5 weeks later...

ah, right, so you are saying a full 40 pint kit will fit in the fermenter, you just need 2 extra bottles to store it in after fermentation?
Re: ibrew - new home brewing system from Muntons...
I just had a rersult picking up 2 complete systems for £7.50 a piece well worth it if even just for the dispensing bottles as now have 4 with 2 taps.Felling rather chuffed at moment lol.

How did you manage that??willike wrote:I just had a rersult picking up 2 complete systems for £7.50 a piece well worth it if even just for the dispensing bottles as now have 4 with 2 taps.Felling rather chuffed at moment lol.

Went to get a cornie setup from a fellow forumer which was already an amazing deal £35 for keg, gas, regulator, pipe and tap (not a flexi one either) and he had them there and offered them to me for £15 quid the pair.Couldnt believe my luck lol.scottmoss wrote:How did you manage that??willike wrote:I just had a rersult picking up 2 complete systems for £7.50 a piece well worth it if even just for the dispensing bottles as now have 4 with 2 taps.Felling rather chuffed at moment lol.

Exactly right. Although I presently use 2L fizzy pop bottles for storage.
Re: ibrew - new home brewing system from Muntons...
I picked one of these up off the buy and sell. I used 1 last night to bottle an extract batch. I primed the bottle with around 4 teaspoons of sugar...is that ok or is it force carbed. I thought if i naturally carb and use the gas for just getting it out ? they appear to be very handy...only thing is there are some hop particales floating round as the dry hopping bag bust. i think i may at the risk of clogging the dispenser...anyone have this experience ?
Re: ibrew - new home brewing system from Muntons...
update: it wasnt clogged or if it was it freed it self up. finished the ale in it and also had a lager. I must say its fantastic for alger as you can hold it at a good fizz level you'd never get in a basic barrel. Would actually pick another one of these up if anyone had one for sale....

Spring this year should see the return of the Home Draught System in the supermarkets.

You'll have to put up with 10 pints of Grolsch/Carling or Coors Light, but the bottle and tap system are fully reusable with a little bit of force and modification.

You have to 'snap' the ratchet lock system off the co2 house, and file back the locking tabs off the dispenser part where it engages with the bottle.
16gm co2 carts available here..

I have 3 now as a mate works for said brewery

When did that system go out of supermarkets? I only ask because they were selling it in the Spar in Arisaig last summer - would it have been old stock?
Nothing's forgotten, nothings EVER forgotten...

Hi
I think they stopped just after the world cup. I know some got recalled because of a faulty tap.
