Anyone made a Porter with US05
Anyone made a Porter with US05
Am doing a London Porter style brew today but with US05. Reckon it might turn out a little dryer than with British or English yeast strains. With the amount of 8% Choc, Crystal, and Brown to 1.060. Anyone used this yeast in this style?
Re: Anyone made a Porter with US05
I've used US05 in a fair few stouts with excellent results! I took a corni of 4SOS home at Christmas that was fermented with US05. My Dad and Brothers loved it. I reckon your right about it probably finishing a little drier but I reckon it'll do a cracking job. What bittering hops are you using?

Apollo to bitter to 32IBU's then Fuggles late to take to 35IBU's overall

Always rehydrate! (And yes - I'd use 2 packs myself).weiht wrote:Better to hydrate or maybe use 1.5 or 2 packs?
Baltic Porters are brewed with lager yeasts at lager temps I think, and this may go along the same lines with the clean US05 characteristics. No reason why it should't work here - it's all about malt anyhow - US05 won't stand in the way!
Re: Anyone made a Porter with US05
The worst thing that could happened to me was that the SG doesnt go below 1020, possibly due to insufficient yeast count or too much unfermentable sugars extracted.

I have, turned out pretty damn nice I think. Was a love it or hate it beer half my mates and me loved it and the other half didn't like it at all.
I think it performed well.
