Can Someone check my temp controller wiring please

Post by WishboneBrewery » Tue Jun 29, 2010 6:16 pm

**Edit** - Looking at my own wiring I am now pretty sure I've wired it up wrong

Please can someone check my wiring below before I secure the sockets in place etc **I have not yet wired the Sensor, its an STC-1000 controller from ebay.

Will it work and not blow up?
Cheers :)

I think so too!

FWIW I take Live to the power on the controller and then loop it to each of the other lives. Then I take a Live from each of the pair of switches to the live of the socket. Loop the neutrals together and then take that back to the Neutral Power on the controller.

Earths are OK Though :D

Oh... Just so you know I won't plug it in as its not got a plug on it... WHEN its actually right it will be wire to a fused Spur and screwed to a wall.

When either the cooling or heating come on, it will short circuit the mains!!

You need to remove the neutrals from the STC-1000 (6th and 8th) to the 13A sockets

Then you need to have the live going to the leftmost connector on the STC, then link this to the 5th and 7th, removing the wires currently connected to 5th and 7th.
Also remove the Brown wire which connects the two 13 A sockets.

Then connect the two "L" terminal of the sockets to the 6th and 8th of the STC.

So, neutrals (blue) coming from the left of the picture go to STC (2nd) - (which is correct now), and to both the sockets "N".

Live (brown) coming from the left of the picture goes to STC 1st, 5th and 7th.

OK then guys... Hows this???

I'm pretty sure it was a case of RTFM rather than relying on the pictorial evidence of others wiring.

Live Feeds to in series:
-Temp Controller
-Heating Relay
-Cooling Relay

Switched Relay Feeds to:
-3 Pin Live! on both sockets

To Neutral Feed in series:
-Both 3 Pin Socket Neutrals
-Temp controller

Check me please :)

After looking at that hassle....when I do get round to buying an ATC-800....I am going to pay the extra to have the wired version

I suppose by the time you have bought and assembled the other bits it would be almost the same price.
Though the Ebay Mini Temp Controller here is pretty cheap @ about £18 delivered. I wouldn't call it hassle, I'd call it learning...
Once my wiring is right, making a second unit to for a Fermentation Fridge is going to be easy and maybe even neater. (this unit is to control my HLT, cooling socket not actually needed)

That's fine . . . but just for idiots :D I would have the switched live to the socket in brown wire not blue . . . Or to be totally 'retro' Red (for danger)

:) It did annoy me having to use the Blue Wire rather than Red, I'm using what I've got to hand (about 1m each of 1.5mm & 1mm Twin+Earth cable and a bit of stripped Kettle lead for the Earthing between the sockets) I just need to get a short length of Earth Sleeving from a sparky mate.

Cheers :)
