Turbo Wine experiment

Post by Spud395 » Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:57 pm

This went into the DJ sat 26 June

1L Lidl apple juice
1L Lidl red grape juice
1 1/2 kg white sugar
Juice of 1 lemon
Hand full sultanas
1 tsp Youngs wine yeast
made upto 4.5 l no OG reading ( cant remember why )

I decided to try add some more complexity to the wine and spotted a liter carton of blueberry juice in Lidl today.
Put the L of bbj in a clean dj and racked the fermenting wine in on top of it.
This left me with a maybe a pint of wine that needed disposing of

I'll have to say I was plesently supprised, now there was obviously still sugar unfermented, but a very fruity slightly red wineish taste.
Looking forward to seeing how this works out allthough I think it wont be that turbo, could take a while I reckon.

Keep the extra pint it will be needed to top up every time you rack the wine.
This will definetly not be "Turbo" as once fermented it will take a minimum of 6 months storage before it tastes remotley like wine(the dried fruit needs time to work its magic)
Brewing From deepest south Dumfries & Galloway

Oh this will be turbo, in my house anyway ;)
Might put a bottle aside for Christmas, but only one.
If it works out well enough, will do a 5 gall batch then!

Good man Spud-that's the spirit!...............one thing though;demi-johns?....this side of the pond we only deal in 20L batches (or larger).I do recall the ultimate cheap Turbo DJ wine in the early 80s was 1 bottle LIGA C (kids vitamin tonic),2lbs(1kg) white sugar and any wine yeast .Drinkable(barely) within 10-12 days.Rose type .Cheers to yeh!
