But not in a Manc 'really good' way
I'm testing my beer engine, wanting to put it into service soon.I'm feeding it from a cornie with a demand valve fitted about 8 inches from the pump.
When I pull a pint (currently water) I get a banging that travels along the line (not sure if its originating from the demand valve or the engine)
I'm sure Ive seen this discussed previously but I cant find the thread.
Any pointer as to how to fix this ?

Re: Banging Beer Engine
Remove the demand valve first, to rule that out. If you still have a problem feel as you pull
Is it smooth or does the handle seem to move in little stick jerks. If jerky there may be something not running smoothly....'o' rings, or just links. Strip, check, lubricate and try again. Look closely at any internal non-return valves.

Yes. Try having a look at this thread.
I'm not sure if we sorted it out, but we certainly had a good try. I think it basically boils down to amount of pressure in the cornie and the thickness (or rather thinness) of the cornie dip tube.
I had to reduce the pressure to almost nowt while serving.

Thanks both
Thats the thread I was looking for Jim
Will strip it all down and try again, lubricating the linkages
I pressurised to around 15psi so it may be that I need to reduce the pressure

I don't know why, but in my head I visualised you with a newly acquired engine
First thing is to simply remove the demand valve and draw water from a vessel at atmospheric pressure. If all is well, then the mechanism is probably sound, unless the problem is only evident under pressure.

Re: Banging Beer Engine
I've now fixed the problem.
After reading Jims thread and having a few pointers as to where to look I suspected the washer on the housing that connects the input to the engine.
Having no luck with answers from the refurbishing companies I checked out the plumbing section in B&Q and found a selection pack of 1/8" rubber washers.
Replaced the washer and it now pumps like a good 'un
All thats needed now is a virtual trip to Harmony hut for a couple of 3/8 JG fittings
