what do they mean when they ask if the beer

..is in 'good nick' / condition etc? i've heard people ask a landlord of a decent pub what's in good nick that week. so, what do they mean, and what affects the beer to this extent, week to week?

For my sins Nim, I have worked as a cellarman. The condition of an ale tends to refer to cask conditioned ales which need to sit before being tapped and drawn and can vary slightly from cask to cask.

In a well kept cellar casks will sit at the right temperature for 3 - 7 days to settle from transit before being tapped and drawn. In practice, the more popular the ale, the more this corner can tend to get cut.

Why people ask, I'm not really sure, no barman is going to say "Yeah we shook it up and down for the entire day and pissed in it"... There you go.

I don't think he's exactly an active member. No posts for over a year, he probably was just bored out his head one night & fed up surfing Porn!!!

Well, this is the first time I have witnessed this kind of behaviour on this forum. There's no need for that nimhbus. If you haven't got anything decent to say, don't bother posting at all.

We have to protect this place and look out for the people that make it so great. I can't be doing with people being rude and insulting to other members.

Grrrrrr.... :D
