Huckle My Buff

Here's a recipe for cold winters nights.
2 pints draught beer
6 eggs
2oz sugar
grated nutmeg
brandy to taste
Heat one pint of beer with the eggsand sugar but do not boil.Remove from heat and add the remaining beer,a generous amount of nutmeg and brandy to taste.Serve in hearproof glasses.

I first saw it mentioned in a book entitled BEER AND SKITTLES by Richard Boston published by fontana books in 1977.I was reading some old cookery books the other night and there it was.

Here's another daab LAMBS WOOL put mashed roasted apples with apint of heated brown or old ale to which is added ginger nutmeg and sugar.

oh I have put plenty of things in my boiler, Mars Bars perhaps amongst the strangest - but I meant I have only ever put apples into my boiler, never in my fermenter :)

Now having tried Oyster Stout which uses oyster extract, I am tempted to make a Mackerel Bitter.

Oyster Stout does genuinely use Oysters though -

I know Porterhouse Oyster Stout definately uses Oyster Extract. I have their 'book' which I picked up from the pub recently.

Oyster Stout.

Alcohol by volume: 4.8%

Grain: Pale Malt, Roast Barley, Black Malt, Flaked Barley.
Hops: Galena, Nugget, East Kent Goldings.
Special Ingredients: Oysters.

Brewed with fresh oysters. A smooth drinking aromatic stout with a discernable but unidentifiable aromatic aspect. Not suitable for vegetarians.

Very possible but then surely that would be lying about what is being used in their product especially when stating it is unsuitable for vegetarians.

The Oyster stout? It tastes quite nice from what I recall. I have never tasted oysters so can't really say whether there is any oyster flavour. Doesn't taste fishy though :)
