I don't mean to pick, but a quantum is technically the SMALLEST unit of change.....not a large one. Which is why quantum physics deals with very, very small things....at least until we are able to unite it with the other forces. This is kind of the Holy Grail of physics at the moment.

Another of my favourite overused linguistic bugbears is the "Meteoric Rise to Fame"....seeing as meteors are pulled down to earth by gravity, and never under any circumstances rise up....More like a crash and burn than a rise to stardom.

Pedant mode OFF.

I'll get my coat....

Surely the smallness of quantum physics is Massive though, if (when?) they do unite those forces :D

And maybe the Shooting Star is the connection to the Meteoric Rise, a sudden blaze of light in the sky??

Yes, I mean small change causes big difference.

So, instead of using a hopped malt extract made by someone else, I extract my own from some malt and hops.

Personal hurt o' meter re-calibrated. Please carry on for a moment, Sergeant Major.

While it's the smallEST unit of change, it doesn't actually have to be small in and of itself. The smallest unit of change could actually be quite large. If the size of the Quantum in question was a fridge, then it would be a fridge-sized change. I think the problem arises from not actually knowing the Planck Constant of taste or how many taste particles are involved in drinking beer. I suspect that a beer taste quantum is actually quite large because I have a high degree of uncertainty about the outcome whenever I brew up. I currently have a whole fermenter in a state of superposition, being both tasty and foul until I collapse the wave function by popping and lid and have a slurp, so the entire bin could be said to be a quantum unit.

Is this really a reference to the Copenhagen interpretation of Quantum Mechanics on a homebrew forum? :?

Hmmm...

A Schrödinger's cat situation with the beer in the FV...

Fascinating captain...

Its probably just beer in a box instead of a cat

EDIT: - Gah! I sort of know something for once anbd someone beats me to it!!

True, but I beleive its a quantum superposition... As until its tasted it is both nectar and undrinkable filth...

The cat scenario I beleive was intended to demonstrate the bizare nature of quantum mechanics...

It also hinges on a random event... Which pretty accurately describes my AG brewing at the moment....

Doesn't everyone have a cat in their FV, then?

I know Trucker does, I've seen the piccies.

According to the Many Worlds theory (in which there are an infinite number of universes, with an infinite number of yous in them, living every possible version of events) the outcome is everything from sipping nectar, to gagging on vinegar, to finding it so-so, to opening it to find that every molecule of beer has quantum tunneled its way through the side of the fermenter and is making your feet wet... and so on. At the moment you open the lid, you drop into one of the universes. Hopefully one where the beer is nice.

Yup. Originally put forward to describe a problem Schrodinger saw with the theory. Unfortunately it turns out that the theory is correct and it is the universe that is utterly barking mad.
It also hinges on a random event... Which pretty accurately describes my AG brewing at the moment....
Keeping with the quantum mechanics theme - as Neils Bohr once said "An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made in a very narrow field." :)

WOW..... great idea.
I really like your set up, very neat
I have already ordered 3 stockpots from fleabay.
They actually work out cheaper than 3 plastic fermenting buckets.
Gonna put all this in some sort of tower set up with possibly a gas ring for the
bottom boiler or maybe all electric......
Anyway brilleant idea and thanks for the inspiration.

BUMP on this.

6 years on and I'm considering something like this. Have any of you guys gone down this route?

Cheers
