Looking forward to this all ready :D
Super chilled brewday, no pic's though the better half was gone with the camera in the car.

It was a case of brewing came second and it really worked out well.
Almost a 2 hour mash, between school runs  got a chance to sparge then and I left the boiler full for another 1 1/2 hours while I got the dinner sorted.
Wort was still almost 50 deg when I put the boiler on.
Put the 60 min hops in at this point, I thought I had more HM so I reckoned this would up the IBU a little, was hoping for 25ish.
Also boiled for 70 mins as it turned out.

Anyway it worked out very well with the 2 youngest kids 'helping' quiet a bit after the boil #-o
Got a lovely clear wort into the FV and a spot on the rich straw colour I was after.
Tried Nottingham for the 1st time, pitched at 21 deg and going to let this cool down to around 15 in the hope of a really clean ferment.

Well the 1st attempt at using Nottingham and I'm very dissapointed.
Rehydrated as I do and wasnt sure about it, no froaty head, but I though maybe it a different yeast.
40 hours later and not a sign of life, never had a yeast failto start on me yet!

Only other thing I had was 2 out of date packs of wb06. Rehydrated both of these an pitched into the now 15 deg wort.
Not holding out much hope for this brew now, I'm discusted (SP?)
Back to s04 and us05 for me I think and allways have a back up pack I guess :(

dirt! sorry to hear that matey! Seems like Nottingham is still one to stay away from. I take it it wasn't frm the dreaded 'bad' batch numbers!?

you never know it may still turn out ok. WB06 always seems to settle out well for me so you shouldn't be left with a cloudy one!

Chin up! :D

Well we have a good healthy yeast head this morning.
Pity it not the yeast I was wanting to use, I wanted a neutral yeast and I have a wheat beer yeast :?

But it's bubbling away happy at 15 deg so shouldnt produce to many fruity flavours I hope

OMG like LOL, ok listening to the kids to much, but it's true.

This , after all the panic has turned out to be a really nice pint.
Just supping my 2nd sample bottle in 20 mins  after only a week in bottles.
It was very cloudy in the Fv, so I racked into a better bottler for a few weeks to see would it clear.
The yeast didnt seem to be dropping and my expectations were low so I said I'd bottle anyway.
A week of warm and 2 hours in the fridge and I'm blown away by this hobby all over again.

No wheat beer taste ( I ended up having to up the temps to 21deg to get things moving properly) just a really flavoursome lageralike pale ale.
The best thing about this, appart from really liking it myself, THE MISSUS LOVES IT.

I have found my BBQ pale ale

Did I say I was happy with it
