StarSan, Bottle Rinser and Drainer

Post by Dribble » Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:57 pm

Was considering buying one of those bottle rinsers which fit on top of the bottle drainer thingys...does anyone know if it's ok to use starsan with these?

I would have thought it'd be ok but have read you need to keep it away from soft metals and stuff so wasn't sure if it'd be ok with plastic. This starsan stuff sounds really good, if a little scary being acid based!

Yes it is fine. Star san is great to work with, the solution is very mild when made up to no rinse concentrations.

Excellent, will look at ordering these items then...should make the bottling process a bit easier I've heard!

I use one of these with StarSan - does make bottling easier.

The one thing about StarSan is that it foams, so I end up building up quiet a head in the rinser which slowly gets higher and higher particularly over 40-60 bottles! I try and use it up by diping the necks of the bottles in it before I hang them on the drainer in the hope this reduces any remaining risk of infection.

It is good, just take it steady with the rinser or you'll end up building a lot of foam

+1 to that!!

:D

Its good stuff though and although it seems expensive initially it does work out quite cost effective :)

Where's the best place to get this stuff from then and what should I expect to pay?

I'm bottling in the kitchen on an evening and keep waking the kids up in the bedroom above with all the noise of clanking bottles!

I got mine from the-home-brew-shop.co.uk and I think hop and grape have it too. Was just over a tenner, for 16oz, which lasts a long time given you're using about 2ml per litre of water.
