How many bottles do people go through on a kit

Post by Hoppkins » Tue Feb 20, 2007 11:00 am

How many bottles do you people usually fill from an average 40 pint kit. Is it as im guestimating about 45?

I'm talking the generic bottles most beer use (500ml im guessing?)

Thanks

You will need to get 45 500ml bottles ready.Try getting a few smaller bottles to fill and use these for sampling after 1-2 weeks in the bottle!

I think ill bottle some and keg the rest. 45 bottles for one batch is more than i can muster that quick without paying lots of wilko ones (3.99 for 6)

There just been to wilko to buy 12 bottles for 6 quid. 50p a bottle, fair enough.

Part of me argues i should just pay 1.54 a bottle and get it filled with beer. But my budgets are dwindling.

Ah well all in all thats about 22 bottles i have now :)

Need to get cleaning some more. Are there any bottles people know of to STEER CLEAR e.g. cap isnt 26mm?

Thanks

Try not to use clear bottles. You could always try your local recycling centre and loiter around the glass section
Im not sure if its correct but most bottles which are capped seem to be the same size opening. However not all bottles suit the capping machines as the collar on the neck is different :?

The ones i got from wilko are brown. I'll get some more when they get some more in stock.

50p each is quite reasonable.

I was looking for those too. I found some good swing tops in IKEA. They hold the pressure of turbo cider for sure i found.

1.49 for a 1 litre swing top im afraid. Good in a pinch though.

So far I have acquired 2 1.5 litre grolsch bottles and about 40 standard grolsch bottles.

Speaking of which one of these bottles is full in the shed and I have no idea what beer I have in there. I think I may break that one open tonight (and hope it isn't my Christmas failure!)

Poor you :)

I recently tried one to see if there had been any improvement but it is just as bad as when I first brewed it. I still have 4 bottles in my 'archive' and am hoping that the grolsch bottle in the shed has some of my Mild in it - can't think of what else would be in there!

I've poured and I am happy to say that it is the mild I am drinking rather than the Christmas Brew. Not a fantastic beer (was left overs) but quite drinkable non the less :D
