Double Brew Day - APA and English Ale

Post by floydmeddler » Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:12 pm

Planning on doing two brews in one day next week some time with a couple of mates.

Brews:

American Pale Ale
10-A American Pale Ale
Date: 26/09/2010

Size: 25 L
Efficiency: 80.0%
Attenuation: 80.0%

Original Gravity: 1.052 (1.045 - 1.060)
Terminal Gravity: 1.010 (1.010 - 1.015)
Color: 6.03 (5.0 - 14.0)
Alcohol: 5.49% (4.5% - 6.2%)
Bitterness: 45.8 (30.0 - 45.0)

Ingredients:
5.0 kg Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt
500.0 g CaraMalt
100.0 g Torrified Wheat
28.0 g Centennial (11.5%) - added first wort, boiled 90 min
20.0 g Amarillo (9.4%) - added during boil, boiled 10 min
20.0 g Cascade (7.6%) - added during boil, boiled 10 min
65.0 g Amarillo (9.4%) - steeped after boil
65.0 g Cascade (7.6%) - steeped after boil
1.0 ea White Labs WLP001 California Ale

**********************************************************

8-C Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale)

Size: 25. L
Efficiency: 80.0%
Attenuation: 80.0%

Original Gravity: 1.052 (1.048 - 1.060)
Terminal Gravity: 1.010 (1.010 - 1.016)
Color: 6.03 (6.0 - 18.0)
Alcohol: 5.49% (4.6% - 6.2%)
Bitterness: 50.2 (30.0 - 50.0)

Ingredients:
5.0 kg Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt -
500.0 g CaraMalt
100.0 g Torrified Wheat
46.0 g Northern Brewer (9.6%) - added during boil, boiled 90 min
40.0 g Fuggles (3.8%) - added during boil, boiled 10 min

The grain bill will be mashed in my big mash tun. Will then split the wort between two boilers. Once the second has been filled, we'll mix the two batches through each other using a pump until the gravities equalise. After that, we'll switch them on and hop accordingly.

Always something we've said we'd do. Shouldn't be too hard... hopefully!

Nice idea. Could be stressful if you're running two boils with some mates around. My advice is to not start drinking before you start the sparge :P

Good luck!

+1 one! I used to brew with some mates who wanted to become home brewers! Turns out they ended up home drinkers and home "watch me do all the work"ers! :D

Yep, will have to make sure we keep off the booze. We're all Irish so that should be interesting. May do some photos.

Plan was to do 3! Was going to do an Old Bob clone at the same time with a separate mash tun etc. but am thinking I should try with 2 first.
