where do you buy your Sanitizer?

Post by JammyBStard » Wed Oct 20, 2010 8:19 pm

I've been using Chemipro Oxi from my LBS for the last few months without any issues, a 1 kilo tub makes about 250 liters and costs £8.50.
I dont know if this is a good price or if their's a better alternative. I hear alot about Star San, but I've never seen it for sale.

Where do you get yours? is there a good online outlet?

I use soda crystals for cleaning (from any hardware store, wilkos). I use videne antiseptic solution (NOT videne surgical scrub) as a no-rinse sanitizer diluted to 1.25ml/litre, ask any chemist to order it. Pay £5 or less for 500ml. You can just use it in a spray bottle and it needs 30 seconds contact time so lasts ages.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

Cheap thin bleach from Tosco for me, think it 28p for 2 litres dilute down and rinse couple of times before use not as simple as no rinse stuff but works for me fine

everything gets a good going over with a strong soda crystal solution, then it's starsan all the way for me! I've had one bottle last all year, and that's done a lot of brewing (not only AG, but cider, mead and wine) so I reckon it's good value for money!

Cheapo Oxi for cleaning &
Starsan for sterilising. So much easier than Thin bleach I used earlier this year.

I'm another Star San convert - link above to the Homebrew Shop is same place I go - great service by the way.

I did use thin bleach before, but I find Star San diluted into a garden spray a brilliant way of making a little go a long way and also great for quickly sanitising small items before use.
