I started off a batch of Turbo Cider last Sat. Got a Demi John full fermenting like crazy at the mo :D

OG was 1042, just straight apple juice, no added sugar on this first batch.

Thinking about the headaches already  :out

Well I've been letting my second batch alone to see how well it matures... ;)

Just racked my 1st batch of "TC" into another Demi John to fall bright. It's been fermenting for 11 days. OG was 1.042, FG now is 1.002. So that's 5.1%.

Just having a little "Quality Control" sample now. WOW... I have to say I'm very impressed with the results, even at this stage. Quite a dry cider and also quite a good aroma too. I used Sainsbury's Pure Apple Juice and Gervin Sparkling Wine Yeast.

Now I just need to try & control myself and leave it alone for a few weeks.

The Gervin Sparkling wine, stuck fermentation yeast is a good one for this job and seems to recover well for reuse. :D

l have made around 25 batches of the TC.
Each one very good.
Unlike you Reg, the brew(10 litres) only lasts a matter of days :stun :out .
l always add sugar, about 1 tablespoon per litre as l like my cider medium to dry :stun :stun .
It gives me around 5.5% to 6.0% rocket fuel, enough for me to go nuts   .
Just look at some of my posts :stun   :stun .
Will try a different yeast from the bakers yeast for fun :stun .
Gervin Sparkling wine yeast, have some of this, may try a brew this weekend.
Cheers,
Q :beer

Well turbo cider first attempt going well
5ltr smartprice apple concentrate £2.25
sachet all purpose wine yeast 80p
5 ltr bottle of Eden Fall water (only for the container) 87p
sg 1042 been rapidly fermenting for 3days now no wonder it's called turbo.
.Probably old hat to most members on this forum but i'm like a kid waiting for christmas.http://community.webshots.com/photo/250 ... 8678igogNF

Just bottled Tubo cider after 9days,og 1042 fg 1000 so thats 5.6 by my calculation.
That was with me adding 12 0z sugar during fermentation.
Even at this early stage tastes pretty damn good to me and seems quite potent, cant wait to get stuck into it.
I've also loaded onto the yeast left behind another litre of juice to get a starter up and running, hopes this works.
By the way how long do you need to leave it before drinking or is it down to your own preference/thirst needs :out :D

Ok, so what's the deal with this then?

I can't seem to find a recipe amongst the many references but from what I can make out it's a case of buying lots of cartons of cheap (supermarket own brand) apple juice and fermenting them in a 5ltr PET container.

Presumably the choice of yeast is not that critical <_<
Do you add any sugar or is there enough in the juice?

I'm tempted by your postings to give this a go...

This is i think original recipe link ,i think its a matter of taste wether you put in extra sugar or not. This is the first time i've brewed it and i added 12 oz ,tastes delicious already and its only just finished fermenting.Go on eskimo give it a go. :P

Turbo Cider
« on: Dec 15th, 2004, 2:53pm » Quote Quote Modify Modify
Well this is as easy as it gets! Grin
(called turbo as its so quick and easy)

Ingredients:
4.5L of pure apple juice
1tsp yeast

Method:
1. Place 3L of apple juice into a demijon (assumeing everything is sterile)
2. PLace 1tsp of yeast into the demijon
3. shake
4. leave for 36-48hrs to ferment then top with with the remaining of the juice (cant fill it right up at the start as it will foam quite a bit)
5. leave to ferment out
6. Rack off and drink (or if you like cider fizzy then prime as usual)

i thought i would try this out and i was very impressed with the results.

it is sssooooo easy

i used tesco value apple juice and SG was 1.042 so no sugar was necessary (to get to 5.5%ish) but if you want cider stronger add sugar/honey or whatever.

very good for a beginer and an expert alike!

good for trying out different yeasts also since the recipe is so simple and the ingredients vary so little

Thanks FPB, I think I will give this a go this coming week - it will give me an excuse to thaw out one of my vials of frozen yeast to see if it survived the deep freeze....
