The Name "Eerie" Is a great play on words i think and it also ties in with halloween! Pity it won't be ready to drink till nearly christmas!!!
Lets start with a recipe.
8.5kg pale malt (maris otter)
1.5KG Munich malt
625g Crystal malt
250g Flaked Barley
Mash for 90 mins @66c
Hops
125g Northern Brewer 90mins
50 grams Goldings 30mins
50 grams Goldings @15 mins (add Protofloc)
25 grams fuggles o mins
25grams Halletau 0 mins
This is my own recipe for a golden coloured bitter that i love to drink, the munich is a fist time addition to see what it will change to the brew.
Please note all amounts have been scaled up from my usual 5 gallon batch as i have never made this amount of beer before in one go!
brewlength 12 .5 gallons
Right, Lets start with the compulsory grain shot.
Almost 11kg grain fills my old fermenting bucket Wow!

Heres the hops all ready.

Dough in done and mash settled time to try the re-circ

The first problem appears right away, the holes in the round of copper aren't big enough and is struggling to pump.
I replaced it with an off cut of copper pipe and it now works perfectly, using the ball valve to control the flow.
double checking the ATC 800 with my trusted digital thermometer. Now i know its works correctly i'll trust it next time i brew.

Full "steam" ahead!

After an hour or so of re-circ (total 90 mins) time to sparge but before we get there these samples were taken every fifteen minutes and you can see how much clearer the wort is becoming. (on the right just in case you can''t see how clear

My spinner sparger twirling away!

Pumping to the boiler now gas already on

first hops in boil started.

Mean while Hi tech removal of spent grain!!!

Boil nearly up, in goes the cooler. great protein break one of the best ive had.

After cooling transfer to a bucket a bit at a time for transfer to a conical.

Lots of trub as i suspected

Nice Clear Wort one of my better attempts!

Gravity about right too 1040!

Last but by no means least the money shot. This was taken about 2 hours after the yeast was added and you can already see it working

Thats all for now im going to have a lie down!
