"fusty" off taste

Post by far9410 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 9:58 am

Hi, two of my recent brews have some fusty off taste and smell about them, I think my cleaning/sterilising is up to scratch, any ideas?
no palate, no patience.

Drinking - of course

I think your cleaning and sterilising may not be up to scratch :)

Have you replaced siphon tubes recently? And if you use plastic fermenting bins, check for scratches on the inside -- they can harbour nasties. It is worth replacing fermenters every so often especially if you're having problems.

I keep a few old ones to hand, that I use for holding sterilising solution and pre-boiled wort, and collecting hot water out from my immersion chiller
