American Double IPA -Tesco Finest! (Brewdog)
American Double IPA -Tesco Finest! (Brewdog)
What a fab beer! On offer at tescos today so the missis picked up 3 bottles of this 9.2%(!) for £4 as she knows i'm liking stronger IPAs recently....
Full aroma, flavour, unbelivably well integrated alcohol...its not at all harshly hot like most beers or wines of this stregnth!
Not as bitter as Punk...but still adictive!
Go and buy 3!
Fab!

I've got some of that on my Tesco shopping list for the next time the missus orders online. 3 for £4 is a great deal.
Re: American IPA Tesco Finest (Brewdog)
Eccentric, so where's the recipe then?
I'd like to brew this, it's great.

Re: American IPA Tesco Finest (Brewdog)
I was hoping for some inspiration from you chaps here for recipe hints;-)
Having brewed a RIS i recon i can nail the ABV so its just the little matter of the grain and hop bills... hehe!

Re: American Double IPA -Tesco Finest! (Brewdog)
You could start by making a few reasoned guesses!
Just shoving a few numbers into Beer Engine (for 27L):
9.2% - 9700 PM, 1000 Caramalt, 500 Crystal - but this would give an FG of 1.023, so it probably has some sugar*.
Measure the FG of a bottle of the stuff, then reduce the above, possibly proportionately, while adding some sugar to BE.
150 IBU - Centennial, Columbus and Simcoe are all high Alpha so you would probably need around 150 gms total to bitter.
For a VERY round numbers, you might consider 50 gms of each, and then 50 gms of each at 10 mins, then 50 gms of each at 80C steep.
Maybe add 30 gms of each dry??
Very tempted to try with that as a start.....But I have no space currently and a significant list already
(I am sure there are others here who would have a much better idea of the hopping rates -
wanted!
)
*edit - you would probably want to use a yeast with high attenuation as well (I would probably go for WLP007). - just my guess - all of it!

Re: American Double IPA -Tesco Finest! (Brewdog)
I know people do it with whole hops, but the amount of beer you would lose to that amount of hops would be crazy, might be worth getting some pellets especially for the dry hops. I think Brewdog mentioned they use whole for the copper and pellets for the dry hop anyway. Also it's a bit of a pain trying to get whole hops to make good contact with the beer, they tend to just float on top.

If you live in york, dont waste your time looking for this beer tonight! I bought the last 3 bottles!
I am still on bottle number 1 but bugger me its the most amazing beer Ive ever supped! Will certainly be having a blast at this one on a home brew level!
I find it interesting how Tesco's haven't used BrewDog's description of the ale: This is an extreme beer rollercoaster for freaks, gypsies and international chess superstars.

HAd a bottle of Green King VERY SPECIAL IPA....not their standard crap IPA. 7.2%, it is fab! Go and buy it! I am shocked Green King am actual capable of producing such a fine beer after tasting thier "Hop" and thier "IPA"!!
My fav all time beer was Meantime's IPA, until tonight! This beer is fab, smooth and not as confused hop-wise as Meantimes IPA is i find.
Defo worth a punt!
