Odd Ends Stout and brew number 42!

Post by WishboneBrewery » Thu Nov 11, 2010 3:25 pm

Odd Ends Stout using bits and bats of malt up, its going to be 4.9% and black as black 'Pale Malt+Lager malt= 70% so keeping the base malts up there with it being a right mixed bag of other adjuncts. I am assuming the dark malts will overpower any hints of Maize flavour from the 375g.

I'm not decided fully on the hops yet, though Willamette will feature, I might throw something a bit more exciting in near the end :)

go for it Ade, I bet it turns out quite drinkable.

actually it looks a bit like what I have in the brewcupboard at the moment.

Willmette is a good hop on it's own.

pdtnc, that's a lot of TIII, sometimes it gets tricky to balance flavours at those high rates, but IMO you're doing the right thing in incorporating all those other specs, while some are a bit darker. The Amber is about the only concern, I'd trim that back a bit to about 2%, but its hard to say in all honesty.

it could be tricky trying to pick 2% Amber out of here http://twitpic.com/35v309 :D
I think the fairly large amount of Carafa Special III will cover most of the Amber & Brown malt flavours, I'm fairly happy with the percentages.... but, we shall see when its brewed ;)

Oh.. yep, that could be a bit fiddly then!

There's nothing wrong with serendipity so see how it rolls, grain dregs disposal batches like this usually turn out fairly interesting and I hope its a real cracker! 8)

Yeah sorry, guessed right, I was talking about Weyermann Carafa Special III.
Oops, as it happens, Weyermann don't call it TIII! Its only because CraftBrewer here in Aus calls it T3 that I've called it that, so my mistake, a thousand pardons. Its interesting how terms get incorporated in our lexicon...
