My memmory came back to me and I remember throwing the last few pints out my keg (coopers irish) cause it didnt taste right.

:? Hang about ..... So; Is it the straight Coopers, or the Irish, or both?

Only, last time, ye said:

Geezah wrote: I found with the 'Original Stout' that it was good while it was young, but now ('bout 30 days matured) its got a sort of bannana like aftertaste... I didnt get that with the irish?

Either way, I'm one for getting it in the keg, once it's seemingly done its thing. Don't really know any sound reason for it. I just do.

And, like I say; The only time I got banana's, I'm pretty damn sure it was the Irish.

This isn't settled yet! :|

Boyle? Christ! That's spitting distance from me! Fancy a pint??? :D

My tap water reeks of chlorine.. I bought a water filter kit for 70 odd quid that includes a tap that mounts as third tap on my kitchen sink and the filter sits nicely under my kitchen sink in the cuboard. Ok a bit of a pain in the arse to fit it but its easier and cheaper than buying water all the time and rated to last 6 months. If you fill in the little card that comes with it they send you out a reminder when your filter is due for renewal. Heres a link http://www.pozzani.co.uk/water-filters- ... _info.html
works a treat. I push a half inch hose over the end of the tap and fill a 20 liter water bottle while i am boiling kettles and things. Plus my dogs love the water too. Tried my version of Ditch's stout I made .. Much much better than the shitty muntons gold kit i made earlier

Half a squashed Camden tab' would sort it, Spliffy. But, an in line filter can't be a bad thing. I understand it is important to keep any filter up to date too. Otherwise there's the danger that they'll saturate and start handing the bad stuff back to ye?

Strange, how we can't type " Sh!t " around here. Yet we're allowed to use the 'M' word. Perhaps we should adopt the latter as interchangeable?

Ah dont you just love freedom of speech? Sitting here sipping a glass of a chablish blush i made a few months ago contemplating sh1t or sh?t. which is best? :) Anyway ditch despite the fockups (will this be censored I wonder) I have to hand it to you the coopers stout is the mutts. I will be buying a few more before everything goes up by 2.5% in January. Most of my brews are now just about ready to go. The Muntons stout was crap.. No body.. Like drinking flat guiness despite the head it had.. ( it will be drunk) Yours on the other hand is a lovely drop. As I said my water filter is supposed to last 6 months or a gazillion liters and as I only use it for home brew and my mutts I should be ok.. I think the chlorine smell will be a giveaway if its nearing end of its life.. My water stinks.. It really does. I think they put extra in because the guys at the waterworks probably pee in it.. Wouldnt you? lol. Also on the back of the reviews I have seen here and elsewhere going to try a few other Coopers kits.. I will say this I have a few different Brewferm kits waiting to explore my stomach.. Tried the tripple and its bloody nice.. Have a few others sitting in bottles under my stairs.. I bottled Ditch's adding 100g of brewing sugar. This is testing my diabeties to the max :)

Gotta Love That Spew! =D>
Is this a normal occurance? I only ask cos my fermenting happens in the airing cupboard and I fear untold damage if that happens all over the hot water cylinder when I do a stout!!!

 OMG!!! Stomach; What ever ye do, mate, DON'T try to do this baby in anywhere like an airing cupboard!

Remember: I use a fish tank heater, set at 21 degrees. I fill only to the 20 Litre mark. I Always have the stuff spewing and foaming and going all over the floor. Ye don't want That in ye airing cupboard!

If ye haven't got a place where the action won't matter? Put the FV in a bowl. Black bag. Something that can catch and hold the spew.

Oh and Don't try to seal the lid down either. We've seen the results of that trick ~ all over the ceiling!

I often get some kind of escape attempt even from my bitters; if its somewhere sensitive I found those big rubbery buckets like this or even this were good for the FVs that fit. You can also get trays which I've thought of for the FVs with a tap - but I got a fridge to ferment in before I got around to trying them; though come to think of it perhaps the whole fridge could sit in that.

Cheers

Too avoid the explosion I brewed mine in my bigger 36l bucket... I didn't get the ooze everywhere but it was still trying to push the lid off!

Cheers ditch.... all so far is so good!

Hey Ditch.. Sitting here drinking my first real bottle of your stout after 12 odd days. I am super impressed.. Great taste.. Tried one directly after bottling and believe me the taste has improved big time. No idea how to upload a pic here (help?) but took a couple of snaps in a pint glass.. Its a damn good pint.. Much appreciated.

Ratters; Use the stuff Coopers provide, mate. Save the Safale as a back uo, lest anything ever goes wrong along the line. Coopers own yeast is brilliant stuff. Every bit as good as Saf'.

I have a packet of Saf' in my store. But, it's only there because I can't buy in a spare packet of Coopers

Back to your question Ditch..
I remember the Irish stout getting the bannanna taste as I got to the last few pints, just like the original stout did, so it must be a kegging early and sitting on the yeast thing thats triggering it.
I finally cracked open a bottle of my last original (the same 1 I complained about the bannanna) and it tastes great, and there is a fine layer of sediment on the bottom of the bottle.

Weird!
