Hi All, I could do with a bit of advice again.
I fancy putting a brew on tomorrow but have a bit of a shortage of ingredients.
Current proposed recipe for 25L
3.5 Kg Maris Otter
500g Wheat Malt
500g Amber Malt
500g Chocolate Malt
Apart from another 150g of Chocolate and a pile of Black Malt thats all my grain used up.
FWH
10g Fuggles
20g Northdown
10g Target
Should give me an IBU of 37.
Will I get away with putting this much Chocolate Malt in?
Any tips welcome.
Thanks

Yes, its only 10%, I'd maybe halve the Amber malt (though that said that Chocolate Malt Might cover up a lot of the Amber flavours so it might be OK)Runwell-Steve wrote:Will I get away with putting this much Chocolate Malt in?
Lets see what others say...

Re: Leftovers Stout
Cheers for your reply. I took the gamble and brewed it yesterday, it smelt wonderful while it was boiling, and the sample I took to test the OG certainly tasted like it has the potential to turn out quite nice.
It's a good job I like coffee!!
Time to pay a visit to the Malt Miller to stock up on some more ingredients now.

Re: Leftovers Stout
Hi Steve
That looks like a lot of Chocolate there mate. I’m gonna be interested to here how it tastes after a reasonable condition. I have a porter that I made about a year ago, I used 150G of Chocolate and it was far too much.

Then again, I've just found one of Grahams Squeamish recipes that has 450g of chocolate malt. so maybe it'll be good. i hope so. Keep us posted Steve.

Re: Leftovers Stout
It got an OG of 1.045, so about 75% efficiency which I'm happy with. It is very dark.
It is currently happily bubbling away in the fermenter at a condtant 20C, hopefully!! It was on Monday so I'm sure it's still fine.
I will probaby be racking it on Saturday so I'll sneak out a little sample to see how it's going.
