whiskey or port beers

Post by prolix » Thu Feb 22, 2007 11:25 pm

Has anyone ever tried to brew or blend one of these?

I have tasted a few whiskey beers mainly in france and a couple of port stouts. Are they just stored in port and whiskey butts to get the flavours or are they blended?

Depends which beer. Some are blended , some are stored in used casks.

which ever you need to be carefull as a little goes a long way.

I used to go to a pub where the landlord would add things to the beer himself (with the breweries consent). It was a hopback pub and he was adding to the hopback beers.

In his stout he would add ginger wine and this was amazing.
To one of the ales he added whiskey.

He also added extra hops.

I loved the ginger stout but wasn't too keen on the whiskey ale.

I tried some of that Hoegaarden stuff with the logic in place that, i love coriander, i love beer, thus this is a match made in heaven.

It never occured to me that they don't mix.

Uuurgh!
