I think it will be a bit dark. Probably copper to amber. I got some pics of the color up here if you're curious:

Is that vulcan IPA ready to drink yet? Seems like it would be bracingly bitter.

I like the blog, i had a dead battery in my scales last week when brewing. 1 robbed smoke alarm and we were back! The Vulcan IPA is not only ready it is mostly gone. Its a really nice beer, fuller in body than the white star but not as well balanced with the hops. It has lost almost all its bitterness and comes across as sweet and malty with a slight kick of tropical hops. I'll go back and rean more of the blog later today, nice to see the effort being put in! :)

Thanks, man! I just signed up for one thinking I would use it to store recipes and pictures, but then I didn't brew for like, 3 months or so #-o

I think I might take you line of thinking on some of these IPA's and just be more bold. That's probably why mine are never very good: because I try not to ever exceed the 1:1 bitterness:gravity ratio.

To pararphrase The Matirx 'there is no ratio'. one of mine is at 3.454 IBU/SG. That is the first time i have looked at the scale! Time takes care of that and first wort hopping massively reduces the apparent bitterness.

Cheers man,

Heard you Glasgow boys are getting something together regarding beer? I'd very much like to be a part of that time allowing. Life treating you well?

Sadly the hops have had such an effect on my remaining cells that this makes sense and i fancy getting a plane ticket just for the Friday Happy Hour. Some stuff should just be done....

To debut Randall 3.0, we're planning a simultaneous 'Randall Returns' extravaganza at nine different beer bars around the country on Wednesday, 9/22/2010 at 8pm EST. Click here for complete info.

Want to see Randall in action? We serve beer through our very own Randall filter every Monday and Friday during Happy Hour at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE - join us!

If you know a great craft-centric beer bar that needs a Randall, let em know they can get one! As we build them (we sell Randall 3.0 AT COST - that is $375.00 plus shipping), we make them available on our site for purchase. If you don't see Randall on our site, check back - he'll return!

Oh, you can make one of those things for yourself (I have one that I have not used in awhile, you really need whole hops though). Basicly just take one of those canister water filters and mess with the guts of the thing plus do some plumbing so that you can hook it up to your taps, really pretty easy to do. I was considering growing hops just so I could have something to load the thing with but I am way too lazy for that. Since I am an officer in our local brew club, maybe I can organize a small hop harvest party where I can set the thing up and run a bunch of peoples beer though it. I also know a couple of fellow brewers who do grow hops so maybe I can get the thing loaded up relatively cheaply. By the way, it really does work, it really makes the hop aroma and flavor go almost crazy. It does however work much better with the higher alcholol beer, I guess the ethanol helps extract the hop goodness. Oh yeah, you can't get upset when small bits of hop stick between your teeth when using one of these things, nothings perfect.
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)

I'm an Edinburgh boy now but I will hopefully be able to help with Robbie's beer week. I would like to get a brewing demo going again. Bring some of your IPAs down!

I hereby promise in front of Jim and all these learned brewers to bring down enough IPA's to lubricate the first couple of hours of chat. After that i am in no way responsible for any dribbling or whaffling that takes place. Aye and that's just me! What was the draw of Edimunburgh. Apart from of course the beautiful architecture, international air, hot foreign totty and pure shedload of good pubs?
