Lynx effect kettle element shroud

Post by FlippinMental » Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:40 pm

Hi there.
Here's an idea on how to use the lid from a can of lynx body/deodorant to act as a shroud on a happy shopper kettle element. Here's how it goes:

Remove the lid from the can, and remove the inner mechanism from the lid like so.

Image

Discard the can and inner thingy.

Inside the lid there are 3-plastic studs to remove. Use a craft knife to slice them off.

Remove the boil cut-off leg from the kettle element to leave a round base. I used a coping saw, all done in less then 30 seconds. Trim any remnants off with the craft knife.

Order of assembly is:

Place the base in the lid like so:

a perfect fit.

This picture shows the complete assembly minus the bin. The pins are done up hard, the rubber seal has been compressed but not crushed - just right.

And here it is in place with the bin. Looks as if it were purpose made for the job.

Job done

Hey, I like that. Better than my rolled up cuttings from a plastic milk bottle.

Well I've just done this on the two kettle elements on my HLT and I must say they are a perfect fit, looks like it was made for it.
I'd like to vote this as one of the top tips for 2010.

Amazing! One thing I've been putting off. Now I know exactly how to sort it. Cheers!

Not so much an eureka moment, more of a, 'Hmm, I wonder'.
Personally, I think those clever people at Lynx always had it in mind to make the perfect shroud for us budget elementals, but they were just too shy to tell us, so it ended up on top of a can of smelly instead.
I'm glad that some have found the idea useful.

That looks great. Should be better than my no shroud option.
