Golden Ale

Post by bakerman » Thu Jan 13, 2011 8:30 pm

In our local pubs in Scotland I now see (and drink) Golden Ales from different small brewers. These are all very drinkable.
Does anybody have a recipe for one.I have only done a few all grain, so make it easy!
Cheers [-o<

Well, this is my recipe for my 'Golden Cascade'

I've done it twice now, and it's quite hoppy TBH for a golden ale, but hey, it's pretty good IMHO.

23L
4250g pale malt
250g torrified wheat
150g crystal malt

bittering hop to 48 EBU, I've used Target this time (33g), and First Gold (76g) last time.
50g Cascade at 10 mins
10g Cascade at 0 mins
overall EBU- 59

OG 1046
ABV came out at 4.8%

you get quite a bitter drink, but nice head, and great aroma finish.
give it a try, or lower bittering hops if it looks like its too high for your taste, and it would still make a nice pint.

in hindsight, it's bordering on an APA really I suppose, but not a difficult one in terms of ingredients.

This is one i brewed last year for a party over Xmas, it went down a storm with everybody, both male and female.
I called it Keith Of Sutherland and here`s how i made it.

3500g Pale Malt
45g Challenger AA6.3% @ 60 mins
20g Goldings AA5% @ 10 mins
12g Goldings AA5% @ 0 mins

Target was 23ltrs @ OG1035
IBU`s 33.5

i Got 23ltrs at OG 1040 and it ended up a 4% ABV beer

I keep meaning to do it again but i keep trying new recipes :D
