Beer pull spout question (odd spout)

Post by BrewChron » Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:23 pm

I saw a beer engine with a spout that had a black knob at the top of the swan-neck curve. What would be the purpose of that?

sounds like a sparkler, like marmite you love it or hate it, but you can unscrew it.

I don't think it's a sparkler, it's not on the spout's tip, but built into the top of the spout where it curves, about halfway along its length.

It's an on/off switch.

You can see it more clearly here: http://www.harrymason.co.uk/htm/moredet ... e=ListView

It reduces dripping, and by sealing off the end of the dispense pipe, helps minimise beer loss due to the risk of it spoiling in the engine if left for a day or so due to exposure to the air.

just a guess, this pump may well be able to deliver by suction or top pressure, as it looks very much like a tap to me. I've not seen anything like this before.
