Hi BT

mine also from H&G. Getting a little bit too common this sticking on Muntons kits  , we can't all be getting it wrong! Hopefully the DBE will sort it out, it has for my last two that stuck.......

If you'd like to post a e mail I have an address for the relevant guy at Muntons, my local HBS owner sugested we sent our complaints direct as he's also had customers complaining. The more the merrier, we may get them to listen. Address to be posted in Kits under a seperate topic......

Aparently acording to local HBS, Muntons make Woodfordes, and own Brupack ? . Not sure about the latter, not heard of any problems with Brupack kits?

Russ, admins permiting would you put those details in a message so all of us that have had kits stick, can offer our complaints up.
And then hopefuly this sticking issue can be put to bed, and DaaB can take it a bit easier

Hi Daab

Not sure either and I hope not!, just going on what I was told in HBS. We are sure that Woodfordes and Muntons are the same arn't we?

As far as I know no one has had an issue with a Brupack kit? (in fact they come highly reccomended by one member....... )

WEZ, its still at 1.020 been there since friday night, (now sunday morning)

i've already tried gently stirring, got some safale 04 , so following daabs advice, i'll try adding that. (hopefully i will get some dry beer enzyme by middle next week- i may be needing it) Would i be doing right by sprinking safale yeast on top, waiing till its rehydrated and then stirring?

I bought an almondbury old yesterday, once i've sorted this smugglers out, i'll be doing that one. (this time gonna put a paddle on a electric drill and aerate the hell out of it) also will be using safale, (although i havent heard of brupaks yeast sticking on here)

Hi BT

When I've added more yeast I just rehydrate (half a cup of cooled boiled water below 30oC for around 30 mins) and pich it in.

With the DBE I just chucked it in the fermentor.....Hope you dont need it though.

Don't forget to e mail Muntons to let them know you've had a problem, see my other post.

I just made up a Brupaks West Rding Wheat (Sat night), used a paddle on a cordless drill to aerate (6 mins blast). This morning it was trying to get out of the bucket  Looks like the most vigerous ferm I've ever had!

I'm gonna try a similar method with a Woodefordes kit, see if makes a diffrence.

Is amylase the same as dry beer enzyme? if so, i've got a tub of it. but i thought it was used in winemaking to prevent starch hazes. :?

When you say 'stuck', has fermentation stopped completely? I recently did a Munton's Gold Old English Bitter kit and in the first four days the OG dropped to about 1.019 and then took a further 8 days to get down to 1.014. In the last five days or so the bubbles were coming through the airlock perhaps every couple of minutes.

I just wonder, because surely enzymes only work if there was a lot of dextrin not converted to sugar in the initial mash and it seems strange Muntons consistently get this wrong.

I wonder if maybe Muntons are a bit too optimistic about how quickly their kits are ready for bottling.

Farnborough Home Brew Shop have dry beer enzyme, and yeast-vit which is a specific beer yeast nutrient, different to the usual general use stuff. My porter hasn't stuck as such, it's between 45-55 secs per bubble, and it's got about 6 degrees to go to get to quarter gravity, which I'd be happy with. It'll just take a while. I've already tried nutrient alone, and then a fairly aggressive wine yeast, rehydrated then started in wort, but no improvement has resulted. If it does stop high I might use DBE, but a smaller dose. I don't want to turn it bone dry. At OG1070 and fairly bitter, I don't think it would be very nice. We sit..and we wait...
