dangerous potential glass bottle bombs
Yup - that'll be the ones! They're mostly non-returnable Magners bottles, so they hold about a pint or just over. I stuck a tea-spoon of sugar in each one rather than the recommended half tea-spoon.

I'm not too worried about them exploding, personally I reckon that's just propoganda put out by the sinister 're-usable bottle' manufacturers who are in league with the military-industrial government complex

That's a double bluff if ever I saw one
You're bloody stockpiling them to use as weapons of mass inebrition during the invasion :=P

I use cheapo wilko bottles. six of em for a few quid. Perhaps not the best, but i've written off the cost over a few years.

the purchased bottles i've got are mostly grolsch swingtops. They're solid as a rock!

Nope....they explode. Your teaspoon double dose...is that an accurate 5ml teaspoon, or a heaped teaspoon you use for making tea, as you could easily have 3 times the dose plus residual sugar in bottles designed for one trip......stand well back!

its down to 1.019 as i can make it out.
i can see very small bubbles dotting to the surface, so there is definately life there, so i guess it will get there eventually.

i'll probably be getting some dry beer enzyme through post tomorrow. should i use this only as last resort on the smugglers? only use it when over 1.015 and it looks like definately has stopped fermenting?

well, its stayed at 1016 for a couple of mornings now, yet there are still some VERY small and VERY few and far between tiny bubbles rising to surface (barely discernable really). its also pretty clear.

should i leave longer?
should i gently stir?
should i use dry beer enzyme?
should i barrel?
should i go to work this morning or stay at home tinkering with beer and drinking?

just kegged it, added 80 grams brewers sugar to some water and boiled it in the microwave.

in a separate cup i mixed a sachet of beer brite with water. i added this to the empty keg. then i did something silly......

i poured the boiling hot sugar solution over the beer brite mix,(thinking that the swirling of the beer would mix all this up together)
unfortunately white smoke (it didn't smell of anything) started to pour over the top of the keg!!

anyway , i syphoned the beer into the keg, via a tap and tubing very gently so as not to aerate.

please tell me i haven't produced some chemical reaction that is gonna ruin the smugglers !! :? :(

was more like that dry smoke you get at raves !!! :D :D

just had a taste and it tastes good! nice and hoppy, not fishy

thanks christ for that! after all the care i took over this brew, what a prat to do that!

anyway, its a top tap so not too worried about hindering the clearing.

from now on i'm gonna use tubbys advice and use gelatine so i can mix it and the priming sugar together
.
