well I have done this at several different times, initially I used to just add hops for the last ten mins of the boil then transfer this bag (when cooled) into the fermenter.
More recently I have put a fresh bag in to the wort as I turn off the boiler off (as an attempt to sterilise the hops) then cool it and transfer this bag to the fermenter. I have even done both, from a taste point of view the results are a significant improvement on the taste/aroma.
I am still experimenting with how much hops to use, I generally remove the bag at the time I rack off the beer - so that's after a week in the beer fermenter

We tried another bottle last night and it's improving by the day. We are trying occasionally so we understand the flavour of young beer. It's improved in both aroma and condition

Assistant chief head captain brewer Andy brewed her very own beer as our second brew on Saturday. APA (Andy Pale Ale) with 12kgs pale malt, 100g Cascade at 90 mins, 50g Citra at 10 mins and 50g Citra at 5 mins. Safale-05 this time
Corrected all known ham-fistedness and errors this time too and have an aquarium thermometer to keep the temperature just right without having to heat the whole damn room!

Here's a little video update for ya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6KoD6BDqX8

Glad the beer is improving

That recipie is going to produce one very light beer both in colour and in taste, personally I would have added at least 5% of say crystal malt to give better taste - still its early days hope the boss likes it

I dunno Stu, a fair few of my fav beers are very light in colour and only use 100% pale (or lager) malt; Crouch Vale's Brewers Gold springs to mind. If it was mashed at a slightly higher temp then it should retain some body. Tatse is all very personal though isnt it? :D

Fergus/Andy - Good to see that the bug has well and truely got hold of you both;there is no escape from the dark side now.

Good luck. :D
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

I am not being critical and very much agree its down to personal taste, but assuming that 'goosegog. makes 50ltrs the colour would be about 5 SRM with pale and with lager about 4 SRM - both seem pretty light to me. But the most important thing is that it is drinkable, hey its nearly time (here) to open a bottle so cheers !!!

Estimated colour 5.1 SRM. Very pale heavily hopped ales are my favourite.
Still frantically fermenting away! Love it

My other half, Andrea, took the helm on our second ever brew, creating APA (Andy Pale Ale) at 5.5%
50 litre brew. 12kg pale malt. 100g Cascade at 90 mins. 50g Citra at 10 mins. 50g Citra at 5 mins. Safale-05

All the errors we made first time round we nailed on the head this time. Poor choice of yeast, poor crop of Cascade for aroma, low temp for first couple of days - all fixed!

I bottled today making 87 bottles of the stuff. It smells sooooo much better than our first brew! Nice and bitter on the palate too, hopefully not too bitter.

Cheers for your ongoing help and advice with this great hobby, gentlemen!
