Clotworthy Dobbin Closest Yet

Post by lyonsy81 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 9:06 pm

Since im in a good mood i thought id share the best Clotworthy Dobbin brew to date, although Jim was close my recipe more or less comes from the horses mouth, the proof is in the drinking folks, here goes;

23L Brew OG 1044 FG 1008
IBU 29

4KG Pale Malt
200g Belgian Aromatic or Melanoiden as substitute
250g Carared
200g Crystal
200g Pale chocolate

Hops;

Challenger 14g for 45 Mins
Northdown 14g for 45 Mins
Cascade 18g for 15 Mins
Saaz 13g for 10 Mins

I used a shitty dry yeast for this one Gervin but im new to Liquid yeasts now and cant wait to try it with Irish Ale yeast

Hope its as good as you as it was for me i've been chasing this recipe for a long time ;-)

Thanks for the tip, lyonsy, I'll definitely give this one a try, I take it you had more luck than me at getting the recipe out of Whitewater. Do you have any other of their recipe's? I'm partial to a drop of Belfast Ale or Copperhead.

I reckon the WLP028 would be good with Clotworthy - it leaves a great malt taste without being a low attenuator.

Anyway - I'd be interested to hear how this one tasted.
Kegged: 'Nowt
Bottled: Summer Lightning, Belfast Ale, JPA, Guinness Foreign Export

Cheers Jymbo, yes i had a bit of luck with this recipe, I got some info out of them, so like you said with a decent yeast i think you will be laughing, Belfast Ale is still one im gonna have to work on but its a fine beer also and copperhead id say is just pure Saaz, bittered finished and maybe even dry hopped with Saaz.

Lyonsy!
Thanks for posting this. I recently had a delivery of malts and hops. I had inexplicably bought some aromatic malt. I could only think of Leffe. I also had saaz, cascade and Northdown. I've not had Clotworthy Dobbin though have heard of its tastyness. I also happen to have some WLP005. So while I wait for some Belgian yeast to come in I'm going to do a dobbin. Hope thats ok with you, and thanks so much for a happy coincidence.
