Im new to all grain but will start one soon. I have lots of questions which are probably stupid but if I don't ask then I will never know. One of them is, why is the addition of hops staggered in many recipies.

Have a quick read of this, it explains it all for you, this is also an all round guide to brewing so will be helpful for your other questions also. And regardless of how stupid you think your question might be just ask it on here, everyone is keen to help out new brewers and your questions probably wont seem that stupid to us!! Hope the move to AG works for you!

You can learn all you need to know by asking questions on this site. The level of expertise is extremely high.

To be fair, so is the level of mucking about, and general sillyness. We'll usually answer a question before a thread descends into anarchy though.
Needs more Cowbell.

I have been reading the article from the start and it seems to say that when makng beer from extract (without adding hops) I should boil it through the hot break stage. Until now I have just followed the instructons on the kits which is basically along the lines of pour the can in the fermenter with water at about 21-27 degrees. So is this necessary with kits, would it improve a kit brew?

With a kit, the boiling and any necesary hop additions have already been done for you.

You can`t expect sober behavior on a beer forum, its the extra bits that make this a great forum.
