Vodka Kits???
Vodka Kits???
I've seen the Alcotech Super Yeast and am tempted to make some Vodka for Christmas Cocktails.
Anyone done any of these kits? Are they any good? I assume I can just use my Primary Fermenter then transfer to Bottles????
£3.99 for the Yeast, 3 bags of sugar and a 3 day wait sounds just too easy.....
Thanks in Advance.

I brewed a peach schnapps kit when I was a student years ago that was pretty good. I think this had a lot to do with the power of peach flavouring.
I spent some time working in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia a few years ago and it seemed peaches were the fruit of choice for flavouring moonshine

Is there nothing that you can add to it to make it a more bearable drink? Fair enough if you have a vodka base with peach flavouring then this could already be ruined (not a big fan of schnaaps anyway!) You could try to over power the peach with something else.
If it is the plain vodka base then adding something like mixed fruit and leaving this for a month or so could potentially turn it into a fairly nice drink.
On the other hand, it is probably best that you just ignore me

QUOTE (IanRMartin @ Aug 15 2006, 01:32 PM) And dangerous once you get high levels of alcohol it becomes VERY flamable and also explosive with the right mixture of vapour and air, plus you also have a heat source very unwise mixture
I remember Distilling a Bottle of Rolling Rock in an A-Level Class once. All was going fine until the person in charge of the bunsen burner (yes, a bunsen burner) managed to melt the clip holding the distillate flask & it fell on the floor and broke!
During my Chemistry Degree & Phd, we didn't need to bother distlilling - HPLC-Grade Alcohol was available from the stores for free in 2.5Litre Quanitites!
I wish I'd have "borrowed" some distillation equipment when I left, especially the Rotatory Vacuum Distiller - you could distill alcohol off at room temperature in 1L quantities in about 5 minutes and it used a water-tap for the vacuum (New, they cost £5k, but there was a "broken" one in our lab, which could easily have been fixed if anyone could have been bothered)

Just read this thread. Daab, Alcotec now do a 23% Turbo yeast. It makes 23% in about 7 days, but you can't use normal sugar you must use brewing sugar (glucose). The fermentation is quite gentle. It also comes with sufficient carbon for clearing. I found it fermented out in about 9 days but I do brew in a fairly cool room. The carbon took about 2 days to settle to the bottom and although it didn't really need it, I then filtered it. There are no odd flavours to it at all. We used the prestige flavourings which are far superior to the Condessa ones.
If you're in Ringwood anytime, pop in and have a try, I was astounded at how good it all is. We now don't stock the Condessa kits at all.
