Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
Hello especially to andybiochem.
The last 3 bottles I had of your fantastic Jaipur/APA recipe which was made last November, have just won a silver award at the `Spring Thing` competition at Church End Brewery this w/e. It missed gold by only 2 points. A brilliant recipe(if you can afford it).
Cheers f

Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
+1 for Andybiochem,
I brewed this and it turned out GORGEOUS!!!! not far at all away from the original.
it might have tasted even better if I had the will-power to leave it a bit longer

I'm glad you didn't get the extra 2 points though, as it was my Simcoe APA that got the gold!

Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
Naffolddog, is it just simcoe hops in your recipe as I have just bought some but I am a bit concerned with the pineyness that they are meant to possess and so am wondering if a single hop brew is not the way to go.
Yes a recipe would be great!

Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
I will post the recipe up as soon as I get the chance to dig it out. I did a single hop brew exactly for the reason of finding out what taste and aroma they would give on their own, and I used loads because I just love the pineyness!

Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
Congratulations to you naffolddog. I would guess that you are neither naff nor old.I made a bee line for the APA`s to try and taste the winner but it had all gone. I made a single hop (centenial) for the `Brewery ` class which I thought wasn`t bad but it did not place.
A single hop variety which I can reccomend in a pale ale is Galaxy. It`s Australian and readily available from Aus. h/b shops. Use a small amount for bittering then dump a load in at s/o. Drink young. Gorgeous.
Have you seen the Bristol event info yet?

I would've liked to enter the brewery class but didn't find out about the competition until it was too late to brew anything, I don't think the brewery were even placed in that class! I will have to try Galaxy, I have a freezer full of hops that I'm working my way through just doing single hop brews.
Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
Cheers naffolddog. Interesting to see both winning recipes use 100%-200% of the bittering and flavour/aroma hops as dry hops... is this a general rule you use or do you add more dry hops if there isnt enough aroma when you taste it? also, how long do you dry hop for?

Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
I had jaipur on cask at a spoons tonight. What a cracking beer!
Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
I`ve had Jaipur on draft and in bottle. IMHO it is definately better on draught, especially if you can hit it when the cask has just been put on. The aroma and flavour are superb. Does anyone know the actual hop varieties used?

Re: Help me craft a Jaipur; Finale
I've found a reference from Protz here for the bottled version. He claims "Ahtanum. Centennial, Chinook, and Warrior hops". And he's absolutely never, never, never wrong.
Is he?
Is he?
