Waggle Dance?

Last night I had a bottle of Wells Waggle Dance, anyone know how to mod a kit to taste like it?

You could adapt a coopers Pale Ale kit if you had some grains, hops and honey.
Waggledance - Pale ale, Crystal malts, British Fuggle and Golding hops, together with Fair Trade South American honey
Maybe boil up some Crystal malt for 60 mins adding fuggles and Goldings at different stages of the boil / flame out add a good dose of honey and make up the kit.
check the OG and use a light dried malt extract to get the OG to around 1050 and use a SA-04 yeast.

I'm sure an all grain brewer will be along shortly to dissmiss or refine my recipe ;-)

Gezzahs suggestion sounds about right...

Although I would only steep about 80-100g crystal malt in water at about 60-70c for 30 mins

I'm not sure what quantites of hops or honey you'd need to use to get it close to waggle dance, it will be an interesting experiemnt :)

Its the honey in Waggle dance that gives it that nice dry refreshing quality...

Good luck!

It may be an idea to add the honey to water and heat to about 80c (not boil) to pasteurise it as honey contains all sorts of wild yeasts etc.

Just drank a bottle of Waggle Dance as it was on offer at my local shop @ 99p - Not had a bottle for a while.

Fuggles is very subtle in the drink, maybe 20g on 10 min boil / flame out
EKG was strong in flavour and aroma, so maybe 30g 20 min steep, then 30-40g as dry hop
Honey flavour was definative, but not overpowering so I would guess that it might be a late addition...
... i.e ferment out with DME then add honey to gain a few points, then a day or 2 later keg it?

Anyone got an idiots guide? I don't even know what /flame out means. (turn the gas off?)

Going on mine and Manx guy's suggestion I would do a first attempt like this..
Buy 100g of crytsal malt, 20g of Fuggles hops, 70g of East Kent Goldings hops and about 400g of american honey.

Simmer the crystal malt on 4 litres of water for 30 mins @ 60-70c
after 20 mins of simmering add the fuggles hops
at the end of simmering (flame out) add 30g of EKG hops and allow to sit fot 20 minutes. (steeping)
pour the liquid out of that pan and into another and sieve out the hops/grains.
simmer again with the honey added to remove any wild yeasts and add this to your fermenter.
make up the Coopers APA kit as you normally would with Dried Light Malt Extract to get a starting gravity of 1050 -1055, then add a Safeale - 04 yeast and ferment out adding the extra 30-40g of EKG hops in a muslin sack as a dry hop after day 3/4 of ferment.
Rack, bottle/keg as normal
adjust on next attempt accordingly

Just been and bought the ingredients as per Geezah last post apart from....I didn't spot that I needed SML until rereading his post just now and I had to get Rowse honey.

I have a few more questions...

At what point do I add this to the wort and do I count it toward the total water?

I have never owned a muslin anything, what would be a good replacement?

I only ever make a kit brew up to 20 litres, so the 4litre of simmered grains and hops would be my first addition to the fermenter, then add the Coopers APA tin of malt, swill the tin out with boiling water and add to FV
add a few litres of cold water and give it a good stirring.
add 600-800g of light DME and then add water to make it up to 20 litres, give it a good thrashing and then check the gravity.
add more malt accordingly to get the OG you desire.

I got a couple of tins of APA awaiting brewing, so I might get me some crystal malt and honey and brew it alongside you.

We could swap a bottle afterwards to compare if you like.

I have a horrible feeling I put in 30g of Fuggles hops instead of 20g, what would that do?
