Aurora pale ale

Post by HighHops » Mon May 23, 2011 9:20 pm

Brewed this Summer quencher at the weekend with second generation us05. This Aurora is 8.1% AA, so I was a bit worried about using it for late additions, but went for it anyway. Used a touch of vienna to give it a bit of a malty twist.

Aurora Pale Ale

4Kg Marris otter
150g Vienna malt
150g Cara hell
100g Cara pils
100g Torrefied wheat

1045OG

26IBU target
20g Aurora At start of 60 min boil
10g Aurora 20 min hops
10g Aurora 10 min
10g Aurora flame out

After 24 hours this is climbing out the fv and trying to escape across the utility room floor.

I did a couple of single hop Aurora ales last summer using 50gms of hops both times, off the top of my head I think it was 30gms for 90mins and 20gms last 15mins. One with just pale malt and one added a bit of crystal. Both turned out as good summer ales. Doing another one soon.

Thinking about dry hopping it with citra! Can anyone advise how much to use without it taking over?

Jeez.... without it taking over? That's a hard one. Your probably looking at something around the region of 1/2 a gram per litre... That should be enough to add a good hint. Once in though, sample ever couple of days to check it hasn't turned it in to a Citra pale ale.

This http://pdtnc.wordpress.com/2011/03/05/ag49-citra-pale/ was more than enough Citra, don't bother with the dry hopping in my opinion. This would have been good with 10g or 20g less in the 80c steep I think though it was fine as it was... either way.. experiment :)

It funny, I dry hopped an all citra pale with 1oz of citra pellets for a week and I thought it was awesome! Real passionfruit and mango flavours!
