Taking the temp of the grain.
Beginners luck, I was aiming for 65°C...
Running of the first batch of the mash.
I was supposed to get 10.9l...
Running the second batch off seemed to take an age, much, much longer than the first batch:
Total wort in the boiler was ~22.5l, should have been 21.8l.
13g Cascade and 7g Simcoe @ 90 mins
22g Cascade and 11g Simcoe @ 20 mins
Boiler off. 26g Cascade and 26g Simcoe in for a 20 min steep...
Mmmmmmm, spent hops...
Yeast starter made with Rogue Ales Pacman yeast, recovered from a bottle of Captian Sig's Northwestern Ale.
I was supposed to get 15l from the mash and boil, plus around 600ml from the yeast starter, so either my boil off or loss to hops was well out...
I'll be generous and say 1045...
Tastes very sweet with some astringency, so it appears to have worked so far!
For my first attempt I'm quite pleased, but lots of knowledge and experience still to gain...
Cheers,
Bob.
