Brewers meeting in central Manchester

Post by richc » Tue May 24, 2011 1:49 pm

This is an inital 'heads up' about a possible brewers meeting in central Manchester. It's still in an initial stage but I'd like peoples thoughts before the plans get finalised...

I've been talking to Dave, the guy that runs MadLab http://madlab.org.uk/, about using Madlab as a venue for meet ups of brewers. He is very positive about the idea and we'll be be looking at organising an initial event in the relatively near future.
The location is in the Northern Quarter, near Piccadilly Station, it's a nice little venue used by a lot of groups to hold meetings and should be perfect for a brewing event. My immediate thought is for a Saturday afternoon event, though weekday evenings would also be a possibility.

Anyway, thoughts, opinions and comments please.

It's a little bit out of the way for me, but depending on date, time and SWMBO's "doghouse" factor, I could be up for that. I have to visit Manchester for work occasionally, and Crewe every couple of weeks, so might be able to line that up with an evening event.

There's some cracking places to get a few good ales round that part of town...

Oh yes, definitely. Now you've gone and mentioned it I may need to go and lie down in a quiet room for a while to recover.

And if the arch somehow isn't enough, there's always port street beer house on the way back to piccadilly, and a few places to break the journey in between. Best set a whole day aside for it...

Sounds like a good idea. I'd also be interested a brewers meet-up on a Saturday, as I'm down that way fairly regularly. Living in Carlisle though I wouldn't be make an evening meeting!

Meet in manchester is possible for me, although unlike most a week night is probably better for me as I spend enough time on the train to manchester going to work.

In case anybody is interested there has been some talk of a meet up in Preston in this thread in The Tap Room. Not sure why it is there instead of Events but in case anybody has missed it (I only got wind of it via lancssteve).
