Leeds Pale?

Post by Lugsy » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:31 pm

It's my mates 50th coming up at the end of July and I'm going to brew him a beer, god help him! Anyway, he drinks Leeds Pale which is a nice pale English hopped beer at about 4%, I have absolutely no idea how to go about making anything like this as nearly all of my beers so far have been American hopped pales. I've got about 6 weeks to get it ready and I was hoping to do something this weekend so it's got time to condition. I've got MO, some crystal, roasted barley, chocolate, peat smoked, munich and a load of bits and pieces along with Fuggles, EKG, Bobek, Challenger, Target, Northern Brewer and a load of other (mainly American) hops to play around with, for yeast I'm limited to S-04 as far as anything remotely English goes.

If anyone can do anything with these please let me know!

Cheers,

L

I'd be interested in hearing any replies from this also.
I was mainly interested in finding out which hops give it that floral taste/sweet aroma (from what i can remember).

The closest i found to anyone describing the hops used was here:

It is indeed very pale coloured ale from the use of some Wheat Malt with Maris Otter, while a fine trio of hops – Slovenian Bobek hops team up with English Goldings and First Gold - offer light floral notes on the nose and then tease the taste buds with just a hint of citrus and a gentle bitter sweetness.
and here:

leedsbrew suggests that recipe tastes like leeds pale, and also contains styrian goldings and uk goldings.

(i thought the floral taste might come from east kent goldings. I have brewed a TTL clone which contains them (and styrian goldings), but only detected the floral notes early on, it seemed to fade pretty quickly. Anyone have any suggestions of what to try? i was thinking of doing an all EKG brew to find out if thats what im tasting.)

Cheers
