As per Geezah's post above...

Simmer the crystal malt on 4 litres of water for 30 mins @ 60-70c
after 20 mins of simmering add the fuggles hops

if it was only on the boil for 10 mins you may get a little more hop flavour and aroma but an extra 10g wont be disasterous

an extra 10g of hops wont pose a problem.

I'm interested in how this turns out for you as I have just ordered my crystal malt to give this a go myself.

Buy 100g of crytsal malt, 20g of Fuggles hops, 70g of East Kent Goldings hops and about 400g of american honey.

Simmer the crystal malt on 4 litres of water for 30 mins @ 60-70c
after 20 mins of simmering add the fuggles hops
at the end of simmering (flame out) add 30g of EKG hops and allow to sit fot 20 minutes. (steeping)
pour the liquid out of that pan and into another and sieve out the hops/grains.
simmer again with the honey added to remove any wild yeasts and add this to your fermenter.
make up the Coopers APA kit as you normally would with Dried Light Malt Extract to get a starting gravity of 1050 -1055, then add a Safeale - 04 yeast and ferment out adding the extra 30-40g of EKG hops in a muslin sack as a dry hop after day 3/4 of ferment.
Rack, bottle/keg as normal
adjust on next attempt accordingly
I quite like the sound of this! I may add it as one to do for the future!

Sounds good to me too! - waggle dance was the first ale I ever drank that lured me off bad lager all those years ago!!!

I bottled this brew tonight.

I can't wait to taste it but at £33 I won't drink it in a rush.

Can't wait to hear of the first taste, I enjoyed a bottle of Co-op's own organic honey beer today and it was superb, it was chilled and went down a treat as I sat outside my tent in the south Devon sunshine ;)

Not sure what to say, I was after a Waggle Dance copy but this isn't, its way way better, its light and fresh with an amazing hoppy taste. I'd say this is the best tasting pint I've ever had. :D

Thanks to everyone who helped with the recipe especially Geezah and Manx. =D>

Next weeks brew will be another batch of Mick's Magic Ale. 8)

Nice to hear its gone well with this recipe, i'm gonna be trying it for myself very soon.

How would you improve on your brew to make it more like waggledance?

I have to be honest Geezah...the only thing that would improve it would be making the head stick around but is that true about most ales? nobody would want to change the flavour one bit.

Give it more time, the Coopers APA is pretty good for head retention due to the wheat in the wort.
You will notice as the weeks go by that the bubbles become smaller and the head becomes creamier and it will stick to the glass (if its well cleaned).

I will be giving it time, it cost £33 so I'm not going to drink it all at once.

Hi UJ,
Just wondered if any of the honey flavours came through into the final brew?

I'm planning a Woodfordes Great Eastern soon, I am going to brew 1 can to 11.5L totally standard with the kit yeast, and then I will brew the 2nd can a few weeks later with some hops, malt and maybe honey :D

Cheers
