I'd have kept an eye out if I'd read Jim's earlier as I was at the Cambridge Queuing Festival last night. All the volunteer staff were working like crazy but it wasn't enough, once it got busy I cashed in my glass and got a pasty instead!

Some good beers up 'til then though, I'd thoroughly recommend Liverpool Organic's Josephine Butler - cracking beer.

I was there from 5 til 8 and I too had a pint of that stuff, very nice. Also had a taster of the Russian Imperial Stout which was outstanding.........even if it was black. Couldn't stretch to a half pint though, 7.9% I think Liverpool Organic is critch's brewery.

I'm up for a trip to Bruges. I reckon there's enough decent beer about for us to quaff without a beer festival.

I'm watching the cricket supping a pint of the Rev Shane - the worlds first Virgosparged beer, which would have been my entry had i made it to the tasteoff. At the time it was a little opaque and low in aroma and taste. Now its beautifully clear and has a pleasant cascade aroma, which doesn't leap out but is nicely present and that flows through into a nice rounded bitterness - still not quite aromatic or bitter enough but now its become a very pleasant pint and I shall have another - excuse me. Anyone else noticed an improvement?

... I've just come back from a little trip over to Europe and I managed to get hold of a bottle of the Trappist beer "you can't get", Westvleteren 12.

Anyone fancy trying it?

Anyone tried it before? Shall I bring it along in case my Bishops Farewell is a bit yeasty

I'm up for a trip to Bruges. I reckon there's enough decent beer about for us to quaff without a beer festival.

I'd thoroughly recommend Bruges.

Had a really good weekend there last June with 6 mates and I went to the Bruges Beer Festival in the previous November for a birthday bash.

Both great weekends, lovely beer and a friendly place, even if very busy in the centre during the day (but not at night).

I'd really like to go to a beer festival there again. The Westvleteren stall was great. Marvellous to see loads of crates of 10 & 12 available outside of the monastery.
Loads of proper lambic brews there too and all good value.
They used a token system with each token (1.5 euro per token) giving you a 1/2 bottle (16.5cc) sample in a festival glass.
(Glass looks like a wine glass. )
OK as most brews in range 6-12%

Maybe next February

Bruges Feb 4-5th 2012

I would love to sample a Belgian fest, but equally happy to crawl........
If we were to go non beer fest, what about a split stay in Bruges and Ghent? Eurostar ticket would cover the connections to each (Ghent is en-route to Bruges from Brussels). We could do a brewery tour in each that way. De Halve Man-Bruges Zot in Bruges where you can just turn up and do it, and there is Gruut in Ghent, which i believe to be equally flexible.

The Markt is an amazing venue, even better when loaded with hundreds of Belgian brews.
