easy recipe

hi im tring to fine a recipe for my first all grain.Would like to do a standard bitter like you would get in my local some think nice and easy for my first go :D

how about this Dave2

Standard English Bitter
3.7kg Pale Malt
250g Crystal Malt

Mash liquor 10.5 litres
Mash Temp 67 deg C
Mash Time 90 mins

30g Fuggles (4%) start of boil
20g Challenger (8%) start of boil
5g Fuggles (15 minutes from end of boil)

Yeast of your choice

or this one courtesy of Vossy, I've done it and with one malt and one hop it's simple, cheap to make and very tasty

100% Satisfaction
23 litre
OG 1040 FG 1009
IBU 24 ABV 4 %

Pale Malt 4.5kg

Mash Liquor 11 litres
Mash Temp 65°C
Mash Time 90 mins

Goldings 75g 90 mins
Goldings 15g 15 mins
Irish moss 5g 15 mins

Boil time 90 mins

Here is my house bitter recipe, nice & simple, well tried & tested.

Pale Malt 3930g
Crystal Malt 262g
Torrified Wheat 174g
Goldings hops - Start of boil aim for 36 Bittering units
Goldings hops - 20g last 15 mins of boil
Goldings hops - 8g at end of boil, soak for 30 mins.
Yeast of your choice.

This is a 5 gallon (23 litre) recipe, og 1044, 79% effiency, 36 bittering units.

Mash for 90 mins, boil for 90 mins.

thanks for your help everyone think il go with 100% Satisfaction it seems nice and easy for my first trip to the dark side :D

That's definitely the way to go and with subsequent brews you should change as few variables as possible. For instance, you could change all or some of the hops, or replace some of the malt with crystal malt, or use a different yeast, but don't change everything at once. This way you will develop a better understanding as to how the various components influence a brew.

Good choice. Simple is hard to beat, and it doesn't get much better than pale malt and goldings. :)

Yes, my first AG brew was basically that one. Pale malt and goldings - turned out well :)
