I plan to treat the water for my next brew.
I biab so dont have a HLT. My idea is to fill a great big trug i have with the water . treat it , and then put this into the pan to heat for the mash, and kettle for sparge.
Any reason this is a stupid plan ?

Thats what I do. I boil and mash in my boiler and I treat the water in a plastic bin and use as I need it

Depends... Most water treatments will dissolve a lot better in hot water, and some aren't really soluble at all unless they're mixed in with the grain.
What sort of water treatment are you planning?

its a fair point though, if you do need to add any salts or gypsum ect mix that in with the grain

Gotcha - completely the opposite kind of water treatment to what I need to do up here in Edinburgh, where the water's so soft that it's practically distilled...filet o fish wrote:Hi Gregorach,

Not sure about the CRS, but campden's an absolute bugger to dissolve in cold water. If you want to treat all the water before heating it, I'd say you'll probably want to dissolve the campden in hot water and then add it to the bulk, rather than trying to dissolve it cold.

i can see why the traditional beers of london are black n heavy. my old peculiar clone is absolutely the best beer i have brewed so far, trouble is its not quite my taste. i like one every now and then but 40 odd pints of it is a bit much. the ones i want to pefect are the light gently hoped girls beers and all my turn out a just not quite right. water is the next plan.
