A bit disappointed really. So, I might go for something different and forget the Golden Glory idea because it clearly won't be anything like the real thing without the peach extract.
Bugger me  Don't know what to do now. I like them both. Bought the elderflower etc but doesn't sound too promising #-o

Hello one and all,

This is my first post on JBK so be gentle with me. I've just started all grain brewing and I am a huge Badger fan so are keen to try this recipe too.
I don't claim to know much about home brewing (or anything) but I did make some elderflower ‘champagne’ over the summer and can confirm that even fresh elderflowers do smell rather musty and unappetizing. However after fermenting for a week the taste and smell becomes pleasantly fragrant.
Next year in elderflower season I will make another batch of champagne and try and blend it will a brew and see what happens.

I would love to do some Badger type ales, I love 'em all. I tried an extract brew with ginger but sodded it up, probably lack of aeration and poor yeast. I have made som elderflower champers which after 3 or 4 months is now fizzy and tasty but way too alcoholic! The taste has improved after time, this may be a function of the new bubbliness, who knows. I'm determined to make something like Blandford Fly and would love a champion or glory, top summer ale. Its still two weeks before the summer season ends here in Cornwall so I can't brew until then, so here \I am jealous of all you guys who can, I'm just trawling the site looking for advice and ideas....so many to choose from!
Pip pip!

Are you sure that the elderflower doesn't come from elderflower honey?

I'm about 2 years too late, but I'm intersted in brewing a Badger Golden Glory type clone and I've read on the Badger Brewery website they use peach extract. (Someone quoted it fully somewhere in here.) Apparently it's difficult to get hold of, but there is a Peach Schnapps flavouring on the market for making your own Schnapps (barf). I think that would work if you mixed a little in when transferring to 2nd FV.

I'm going to try a couple of gallons and will let you know... assuming anyone cares after two years.

Hey Joe

Great minds think alike I had a few of these last night and thought where does the peach flavours come from extract seems the most likely explanation strange it isn't listed as an ingredient on the bottle do they not have to do that for food ?? I would appreciate if you write up your findings on here as I think this one is on the agenda for me after my 80 shilling

Ha ha, creepy! Great minds do think alike. I was honestly sat with a coffee before work this morning reading a clone brew book thinking of doing a 80/ brew.

I'll let you know how the peachy beer goes.

I may be giving away trade secrets, but I know someone who works for the Badger Brewery. I'm sure "peach flavouring added to Golden Champion" was mentioned in a conversation we once had after I revealed it was one of my favourites. Of course I may have got it wrong and you definately didn't hear it from me!

I never got round trying to emulate the Golden Glory. Anyone else had any joy? I might do it this Spring. Will only do a 20 pint batch in case it tastes 'orrible.

I had a little try of my Golden Glory clone yesterday (it's been in the barrel for about a week) and it is tasting superb. I reckon in 4 or 5 weeks, (if I can keep away from it that long) it is going to be a really excellent brew. I used dried elderflower as per this recipe ( http://www.hopandgrain.com/recipeSearch ... en%20Glory ) and chucked a small bottle of peach schnapps flavouring from thehomebrewshop (which was a couple of quid) into the barrel along with the priming sugar. I didn't expect the tiny bottle to be strong enough to make any difference but it really does. The aroma is amazing and it hits your nose as soon as you open the tap on the barrel.

Highly recommended :D

Thanks Wezzel! You couldnt have timed your posting any better, im visiting the homebrew shop tomorrow for some gas (I already have most of the ingredients for golden glory).............. But Ive just added a small bottle of peach extract to my shopping list!!!!! I will let you know how I get on. I plan to brew using Pale malt extract, as opposed to all grain.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I love The Homebrew Shop. I'm like a kid in a toyshop there and always come away with far more than I intend purchasing :D

The dried elderflower was added during the boil (15 minutes from the end). The peach flavouring was added after fermentation, with the priming sugar when it went into the pressure barrel.
