Bore hole water

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Bore hole water

Post by brodington » Sun Aug 28, 2011 2:07 pm

Hi there,

I am about to make a all grain brew at my fathers house (he want to start brewing).

He lives in the middle of nowhere in Northumberland. His house is supplied by water from a bore hole he had made.

The water is very hard and high in Iron (and possibly other things as well) how would this effect the brewing?

can we use their water?

Do we need to add anything?

Cheers,

Neil

Water treatment tablets wouldn't be wrong campden for starters.. I'd also be tempted to use bottled water it's only 17p per ltr at tesco , ice been working up in Northumberland and I would use the water to make a cup of tea

Hi brodington

Maybe its worth investing a few quid in an analysis of the water?

See topic: Water Analysis at Murphy and sons
