Android App for Liquor Treatment - testers please :D

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Android App for Liquor Treatment - testers please :D

Post by Bobba » Sat Sep 03, 2011 11:39 pm

Evening all,
After smashing out this app out in a weekend a couple of months back, I've been sitting on it for quite a while now. Thought I'd just upload what I had so far for you peeps to have a look over.
I've basically taken the idea of Graham's liquor calculator, and created something similar as an Android App. I haven't used Graham's code, so it will calculate things slightly differently, but it should give very very close values to his. The water profiles are the same as his, and there's the option for CRS or boiling to reduce the alkalinity.
At the very top of the screen there's a bit for inputting the salifert alkalinity test value, and it calculates the alkalinity from that. It will also save all your numbers for you, so you dont have to keep digging out those ion values each time. And the salt additions are in tsps as well as grams.
Going to be pretty busy over the next week or so, but after that I'll be able to get this properly tweaked up.
Some functionality isn't working yet, but it's mostly there.

Great glad to hear it. It certainly turned a 10minute mess around (looking up the alkalinity in the Salifert table, punching in water table numbers into the online water calculator, and then working out what that is in tsps) into a 1 minute job yesterday, so I'm happy with it!
The numbers should be fine, done a lot of checking against Graham's one

I have it installed and it seems to work, I haven't got round to actually using it in anger yet though.

I can't see how the brewzor calculator app could be improved upon. Had you seen that one before designing another?

Oh, you have a WaTER TREATMENT APP! i'LL GIVE IT A GO

The Liquor Treatment App and the brewzor App do completely different things.

The Liquor Treatment App is all about Liquor Treatment, which is not covered in the Brewzor App, well not the one I am running anyway.

Yeah precisely. It's Graham's water calculator for your android. Not even the PC/Mac based software give you this functionality (Beersmith comes close, but you still have to tweak the values yourself to get the water you want, and it doesn't implement alkalinity reduction through CRS or boiling).
Functionality to come in the not to distant future
- ability to save custom target profiles
- ability to save multiple starting profiles
- automatic mode, where you just specify a so4:cl ratio

Using it for real to actually calculate my water treatment prior to a brew day, rather than just throwing some random figures it at to see if it runs.
